I'm so new at this that I am not sure how to ask the question. I want to take macro pictures of fruit. What do I place the fruit on to get a picture of the fruit as well as a reflection of it?

I have a Sigma 100mm Macro lens, my camera is a Canon 5D III and the rest is an aspect of the question that I failed to include. I say fruit but it could be a single flower or figurine.

So, you want a reflection also of the item you are photographing?

Yes, thank you. Would it be called reflective macro photography? Not sure what to Google.

Certainly worth a try. With google short expression searching, a single word change can produce significant different results (or not). For me, very few searches produced the results I was hoping for with the first try. Try being as specific as possible, see where it takes you, then proceed from there. Just a thought....

Mike moats does not believe in expensive equipment and teaches what you want not do. He's on line and travels the US teaching it.

He will show you how to shoot in the house with next to no expense. I think he is great.

Seems to me placing your fruit on a mirror would give you a reflection.

That's my WAG.

Plastic is the usual studio solution.

Did you want slightly inferior imaging in the
reflection vs the real object ... or a mirrored
sharp realistic reflection ? Different plastic
surfaces offer that choice.

You can put plastic sheeting or even wrinkled
food wrap over a colorful or neutral base of
light or dark shade. Or you can buy plastic
mirror tiles at a "home center".

You should use a tripod. You may also hafta
create a mini-room to surround your set up
as the reflective material will pick up colors
or tones from the room at large if you don't
isolate the subject area.

Professional studio results use an enormous
amount of room space to shoot a small item.
You will not likely have that advantage, but
you can learn to twist your "problems" into
creative solutions. IOW you may not ever be
able to render the ideas you have your head
they way they "look" in your mind, so do be
prepared to work with the situation at hand.

The key is to improvise, not only improvise
the physical set up, but be verrrry ready to
improvise the image concept, as reality will
intrude on your intentions. Go with the flow.

Have fun !
