and my daughter and son-in-law told me about these little guys, so I brought my camera with me. The lighting wasn't optimum; I was shooting at an oblique angle and through a window, but I got some rather good ones. there were three of them on and off. Sarah says they are regular visitors. They are the most agile creatures I have ever seen.

Flying squirrels!!! There used to be a colony of them in my backyard that would come to a particular feeder at night. I would go out and talk them and a couple would let me get fairly close. A friend was doing wildlife rehab and raised several and would let me release them to the colony. Enjoy watching them...they are really graceful gliding from location to location.

Rob, it almost looks like you caught this critter in mid prayer. Good job.

Thank you very much for this; yes, they are beautiful, graceful and extremely acrobatic little creatures.

Thank you very much, dancers; yes, they are wonderful to watch and seem to move almost magically.

I never knew we had them here west of Rochester until unfortunately our cat left one on our front porch...

I guess they are nocturnal feeders which would make them difficult to notice, plus the fact they move around almost magically.

Rob, fantastic photo considering everything.

I did not know that NC had some. I am basing that on comments made by some of the NC members.

I have a summer home in Maggie Valley, NC. They live in the forrest around my home. In the spring, I have several times taken the cover off my barbecue grill, to find a family living in there. Very cute critters. Their fur is more like a chinchilla than a squirrel...and their eyes are different.
