Image Composite Editor ICE

Recently I discovered this ICE through my Window Explorer to stitch my panoramic files.
I found it to be much more efficient in speed and memory usage than any other tools I have used; it can process NEF files directly too.
The ICE application is found in my C: program files/Microsoft Research folder
I didn't not purchase it and wonder how it got there.
I want to share this gem with everybody; perhaps everybody knew about it except me.
Please input your experience and evaluation with it.

ICE is a free program from Microsoft and it does a wonderful job in stitching panoramic files. In general I have found it does as good, if not better, job than PS. I give it 5 stars actually.

Glad you found it.

If any of you are interesting in trying ICE, but can't find it or don't have it, get it from Microsoft at this URL

ICE is an excellent free program that will usually give you great results. It will also blend the frames somewhat when there is a difference in exposure.
If you are planning to do a lot of stitching though, it would pay you to have other stitching programs as sometimes ICE will do a better job of aligning frames than another program and visa-versa.

I usually use Lightroom but with my D850 the files are so large that LR cannot handle very many of these files when trying to make a pano, it simply locks up (or it is my computer), however ICE will produce a pano from 10 images as quickly as 3 or 4 and does a great job.

I have used ICE for stitching Pano's also. I have also found that it seems to be faster than Lightroom 6.14 in the stitching process. However, I have found that most of the time Lightroom does a much better job of stitching the photos than ICE does.

Thats my experience using both LR 6.14 and ICE.

PS: I often have both PS and ICE do the stitch and then compare the results. I have no idea why the results vary but sometimes PS does the better job, sometimes ICE.

I have been using ICE for some time and highly recommend it. The photographs do have to be taken at the same time and place. I also like that it joins vertical as well as horizontal, this is two joined vertical.
