Here I am again...still trying to figure out what upgrade to get for my a65 and have some expensive a-mount lenses. Has anyone out there had good luck with using the adaptor on an e-mount camera?

The Sony adaptors work well. Just make sure to het the right one for your lensrs to AF properly.

Does that mean that I would I have to have multiple adapters for each lens???

No. The LA-EA4 would work for all. Its just more expensive but necessary for screw drive lenses. If your lenses have focus motors then the LA-EA3 is cheaper and will work fine on those type lenses.

I have all three types of adapter for my a6000 and a7s. First off and most expensive but it will work on all Minolta, Konica-Minolta, Sony and Zeiss A-mount auto-focus lenses is the Sony LA-EA4 adapter. Next is the Sony LA-EA3 adapter. It will adapt all of the previously mentioned lenses to your E-mount camera but will not AF any lens that does not have the built in focus motor. (all you Maxxam lenses must be manually focused). Thirdly, I have the $10 eBay adapters. They will fit anything to E-mount. Using them turns your lens into a full manual lens, no auto F-stop or or focus. These $10 adapters are perfect for old "Film" lenses that are full manual anyway. I have several to fit Exacta, Canon FD, Minolta MC, and Rollie lenses. They all work fine. If you are adapting to the NEX, A5000, or a6000 series. Those cameras are APS-c . You can use the Sony LA-EA2 (same as LA-EA4) but crops the image. Or the LA-EA1 (same as the LA-EA3). If you don't ever plan to go full frame as in the a7 series, the the 1&2 are less expensive. The 3&4 can be used on any Sony E-mount no matter it is FF or APS-C . Well actually the 1&2 can be used on FF but the Image will be cropped by the adapter. I find that some of my third party A-mount lenses will not autofocus when using the adapters, but the f-stop works fine. I also find that the Sigma MC-11 adapter works great on Sigma Canon mount lenses on my Sony a6000 and a7s. Happy shooting.

I have at least a dozen A-mount lenses. Had several
Maxxum film bodies, now RIP. Tried an a58 and a65,
was not impressed. Now I use a few a7XX and a6XXX
with the LAE adapters from Sony and all is well. I use
both the SLT adapters and the non-mirror type.

I may be repeating myself a bit, cuz I'm the reply in
your earlier thread where I suggested this scheme. I
also use adapter F and EF lenses, but the "All-Sony"
triple combinations are the only 100% compatible
adaptations. The others work for MY purposes, but
others may find them unworkable.

Please not that if you intend to use A-mount lenses,
and want IBIS, not ALL Sony bodies have IBIS, altho
ALL the LATEST models have it, as well as SOME of
the more recent but not very latest models.

Sony still makes two mounts. The A Mount and E Mount, which is for their mirrorless cameras. Be it full frame or crop sensor mirrorless. The only thing I dislike about the adapter mentioned, is the cost of it. It does work though. I would consider purchasing another A-Mount camera, such as the Sony translucent mirror camera, the a77ii/a77iii. You could use your expensive lenses on it without an adapter.

My experience is that ea3 works with DT lenses ea4 works with FF lenses. WORK = autofocus. I found this to be the situation with Minolta AF lenses and Sony A mount.

Thank you mas24. I am beginning to think I should do what you say and just stick with a new a-mount camera!

I would consider the Sony a77iii because Sony improved on its battery from the one used on the Sony a77ii. It is a longer lasting and better battery. Good luck on your choice.

The expected Sony a77iii, a translucent crop sensor DSLT, is suppose to have the same battery as the current Sony full frame mirrorless, the a9. The rumored price of the a77iii is $1400. Sony is dragging its feet on releasing this camera.
