House sparrow bathing in 27F temperature

This Morning, I saw that the drinking water for birds in the pot was completely frozen. I changed the water after throwing away the ice. Within 5 minutes, I saw several sparrows came and started taking bath. I wonder how these birds can take bath when the temperature was below freezing.

Wow, you have a popular pool for the birds! I have a heated birdbath but no birds ever actually bathe in it. I've seen them drink from it and that's it. Great job taking photos of all the action!

Even my Hummers bathe in my fountain in below freezing weather....right at dawn too still mostly dark! I get all the small birds bathing but the larger ones are too big for my setup....they just drink.

Lovely series. Keeping the feathers clean is critical to staying warm, so any open water will attract over-wintering birds.
