Just as a comment...I have discovered that most of the time, I have a hard time even coming close to filling my 128GB card. Before I buy any more big cards, my plan is to buy a few smaller ones, holding the 128GB card for those times that I know that more space will be needed. Right now I 'm not shooting video. If that changes, I might have to adjust my planning differently.

Always thought 128 was too much until I got the D850.

I typically shoot NEF & JPG. The card in Slot 2 is an SD that is half the size of the XQD.

Up until the D850 it was 64/32. Now it will be 128/64. I'm still saving roughly the same number of images.

What are you using for a 64, Bill? You're also shooting a D500 if I remember correctly.

My initial approach was to store raw images on a 256GB SD card and use the XQD for JPEGs, since I didn't yet have a card reader. The SD card was a pretty fast one, so speed was not an issue (no video, but I set up for video to also go to the XQD).

Now, I'll probably move the big SD card over to the D810 and reconfigure for the D850's XQD to be the primary card for raw images, because I have a reader for them.

We'll see how that goes and adjust if necessary.

For the 64 SD's I'm using Lexar 300mb.

On the D500 I switched to SanDisk when the D500's reported issues with Lexar.

No. They are the old 95MB/s HC-1

At first I thought they might be too slow. But with the D500 buffer and (by today's standards) relatively small files there has never been an issue.

Thank you, Bill.

I've been getting away with the 95's as well and I never do prolonged bursts to load the buffer...never found it necessary.

Heading for Corkscrew, Sanibel, Fakahatchee and Big Cypress in about 10 days.

Folks. you might want to look at the videos on youtube about the QXD cards and the Z6 and the Z7 Nikons. It was an eye opener for me. See for yourself.
