I wanted to purchase a card reader. I have one and both ends of it are covered. The ones I see now appear to have no covering where the sd card is inserted. Anyone have any problems with dirt or dust damaging the sd card?

I haven't, but I only use it inside by my computer. If it were getting thrown in my bad and seeing other dirty places I might think about a cover.

Never had a problem that I know of; where do lost files go to? Just joking but...

I have readers in two laptops and a desktop, no covers, no problems.

I have one with a cover which I keep in my camera bag. The one I keep at home with the computer does not have a camera - have had it for years without problems.

I have used my card reader for about 5 years with no cover, no problem.

Works fine since usb 3.0 has been out. My usb 2.0 never failed either. Had one 3.1 c but lost it somewhere. It worked when i did have it.

Just be sure to store it safely and in a dust free location. (One that you remember using, LoL)

It you're worried, just stick it in a baggie before tossing it in your computer bag. You don't need to find any special cover.

I have one. Never had a problem. I keep it and a couple of cards in a sandwich baggie in the bag. Most of the time I just insert in the slot on my laptop.

If you simply use the cable that comes with the camera, no card reader needed, no problems with dust or bending.
