Everything is art. It's just a matter of whether it's good art or not so good art. And no, that last statement is not totally subjective. An Ansel Adams is objectively better than your uncle's vacation snapshot.

...unless your uncle took a snap of you when you were ten, and that’s the last time you saw him alive, and it’s one of three remaining photos of you taken that year...

Ansel made nice landscapes. But he wasn’t family.

Even stranger. What is your topic besides personal attacks, tdekany? Do you have one?

So I asked you why you chose to eat processed foods and drink soda pops instead of natural foods and your answer is “I am, attacking you?

How funny!!! Were you surprised that I knew that you drink a lot sodas and eat a lot of junk food? I also know that your home is very dusty. How about that? Believe me, you are not special.

None of what I say to you is an attack.

However, you did say: “””NO NEW IDEAS “”””

With that claim, you indeed insulted every single photographer around the globe. You threw millions and millions of people into one basket. Kind of like Hitler.

What did you base your comment on? That if the rest of the world doesn’t agree with you, we must be wrong? Or are you magically able to see every photo created every day and you seem to think that you are qualified to make these judgments? Or do you you make these types of claims to make yourself seem superior? Why would you say that there are no new ideas? But then you admit that work of art IS being created today. So which is it?

What a bunch of cow sh#%€t.

When things are pointed out to you that are inaccurate or untrue, you simply ignore them, like every other narcissistic type before you. You have done it from your very first thread.

Quote:
"I'll ignore your blown highlights if you ignore mine.". But if we all
do that,, then how will anyone learn anything?

Here you go, this time, you put every member of UHH into a single category. Does that remind you of someone? You are not only narrow minded, but now it sounds like that you are blind as well.

So let’s see, you surround yourself with a bunch of no talent snapshot shooters, who can’t produce an accurate exposure, who according to you, don’t understand their cameras, gear that is inferior to begin with and you claim that you are here to try to change our minds?

Am I understanding you correctly? Is it really true that you don’t insult anyone, but you are constantly being insulted because your way is always the right way?

Am I communicating with the person who claims that he doesn’t want his work of art stolen on line by posting them on this forum, but who is ok with providing links to other people’s work to be stolen?

Are you that guy?

Btw, your reply to Susanfromvermont was very condescending. But because you lack empathy, you will never understands it. Too bad, there is no cure for that.

Now remember, you we’re not insulted in this post. I apologize for daring to actually point out flaws in you.

Not art! What is terrible to you might be awesome to me. I hate abstract art but the artist thinks it’s great! What is truth?

Can you not accept the possibility of looking at a painting or photograph, and while not liking it, still accept it as art?

Great question. For me the answer is yes. There are many very fine, critically acclaimed photos, paintings, sculptures, and buildings that I don’t particularly “like”.

As the OP I’m beginning to find this thread turning in a disturbing direction. I don’t like to see remarks characterizing people rather than talking about photography. Is there a way to close it to new posts?

You asked a great question and there have been some excellent discussions on it. It’s difficult, but sometimes you just have to ignore the grumpiness and rancor to see the good parts.

You Are 100% correct. Especially since most of us are not carrying the creative gene.

Right on! The definition of art and the evaluation of art as good or bad, as difficult as they may be, should not be driven by individual tastes....

I'm glad we agree on this, Andy. There is a lot of art that I don't care for but still recognize as valuable and important. (I have no desire to attend a ballet performance but still accept ballet as a most valuable and important component of the music and performing arts world.)

I know these can be endless debates but they keep the gray cells bouncing around, right? 😕

Did you see my earlier link to the artist Fred Sandback? Now there’s a guy who made my grey cells bounce around! But the art world loved him.

Yeah, I did look at the Fred Sandback link. Not my kind of art! But, if I sat there and gazed at it long enough, who knows?

Loved your story about the string on the floor...😀
