Oldest grandson had a couple of home games last weekend; the rink lighting isn't too good. Shot these at ISO 2500 and still had to boost them at least one full stop in Lightroom. They came out a little noisy, so I used a little bit of Lightroom noise reduction, then followed with Nik Dfine2. Took some earlier advice about shooting through the glass, and am overall pleased with the results. These were taken with my Nikon D7000 with a Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 D AF ED lens.

These are great! Well done. I would not worry about the noise at all they look very good. You are capturing great memories with your grandsons. The only problem you are going to have now is your grandsons teammates are going to want you to shoot them too. When my son got to Prep School he said to me “Dad you’re not going to embarrass me by bringing your camera to the game are you?” He was the only freshman on the team. After the first game he came to me and said “the guys want to know if you got any of them too?” It’s been the same through Juniors and now NCAA. When he plays against former teammates they contact him before the game and ask if I will take a couple of them during the game. In the summer when he plays in a pick up league that includes NHL’ers they get just as giddy over the pictures. So be careful, with the shots you are getting you are going to be in demand. Lol. Well done! Keep shooting. And always remember the boys appreciate it.

You're very prophetic! Before this past weekend games, my grandson said one of his teammates was wondering if I could shoot some pictures of him, too. Of course I did. And when I looked through photos of previous games and combined with the 2 games this last weekend, I have 91 photos of his teammate. I put them on a thumb drive for him. I think he'll be very happy, there's some good shots in there.

Now I'm going through adding tags to all the game photos indicating the jersey numbers in the photo, so I can easily pull a collection of one player together. I downloaded the "BigNote" Lightroom plug-in that should let me build smart collections from the info, although I haven't tested it yet.

That is awesome. I just post them to my website where the players and parents can view and download them. There are a number of free sites you can use like google pictures or Dropbox but there are many others Tagging by jersey number is a great idea.
Also wanted to mention just an fyi. Previously I shot entirely raw but earlier this season I mistakenly while trying to change the iso changed my second card slot to jpg instead of overflow. I was really happy with the results and even happier with the reduction in post processing time. Don’t know if you are shooting raw or jpg but if you are shooting raw you might want to try jpg. I have not had a single shot yet this season where I said gee I wish I had the raw file to tweak this one. My work flow has gone from a couple of hours per game to about 30-40 minutes.
