I loved Johnny Carson. On some nights I would watch him to the end of the show, having to get up for work at 6:00 A.M. Then came the VCR, and I could tape it and watch later the next day. There was only one Johnny Carson. That 97 year old man had a sharp mind. And was as funny as Johnny.

No one is better than Carson. Leno was also good. Letterman was a liberal fool, and what is there today is a travesty.

Great clip, interestingly, isn't that Betty White that was sitting next to Ed at the end of the show? She is in her 90s now and still going strong.

I used to stay up to watch the monologue, sometimes longer.

Saw an interview with an very old sharp lady one night.

Carson asked her,' Have you ever been bed-ridden?'

Lady, ' Oh yes and once in a buggy'

My grades probably would've been better, I'm sure, if I hadn't stayed up and watched Johnny so often. I'll never forget this one..."Tell me Mrs. Palmer what exactly do you do before Arnold's matches ? Well, Johnny I always kiss his b__ls " The place (and Johnny) went crazy.

Thanks for sharing that link. There has never been, nor will there be, a late night show host like Johnny. Jay Leno filled his shoes very nicely, but I haven't watched a late night program since Jay retired. The rest of them are just a bunch of wannabe political pundits and that is about the extent of their efforts.

Humor is what it is. If you don’t like it turn it off.

Thanks so much for the post. I grew up in a farming/dairy area of upstate NY. Gentlemen and ladies just like this gentleman were around me every day. Of course I didn't realize it at the time but looking back to those times gives me great pleasure to have known America at its greatest time in history. I have three uncles aged 93, 85 and 80. They are still sharp as tacks mentally. One still works as a car salesman in the Houston area. They take me to those thrilling days of yesteryear, so to speak, when we talk about growing up.

My grandfather was an undersheriff in an upstate NY county, Cattaraugus County, and his wife was the town clerk. As I recall she had the first telephone in the town. I still remember the phone on the wall of their home. It was an old crank operated phone where to make a call one needed to crank the phone and an operator came on. You told her who you wanted to speak to and the call was made.

Many neighbors were exactly like the farmer on the Carson show. In the winter maple syrup was harvested. Parties were held at neighbors homes where maple syrup was brought to a boil and then poured over snow on a cookie sheet. It produced the best ribbon candy imaginable. I can still purchase maple sugar cakes online but nothing can beat the ones made by neighbors. As kids, playing in a hay mow was a special treat, helping with the milking and feeding the chickens was also right up there when talking about happiness.

The house I spent my early years in was built in the 1860's. I still recall the house but it burned down a few years ago.

I see I am rambling so I will just post this.

Dennis

Their humor engages you, the audience. To paraphrase the old farmer ' there is no allure to a girl wearing a bikini' Nothing left to the imagination. The best strippers knew this and it made them famous.

I miss the days of entertainment sans politics. Thanks for posting, I have forgotten what true entertainment looks like.
