What a silly statement. Two points - First : the rest of the world does a much better job of allowing immigrants than we do.
Second- how would immigrants from Mexico and South America immigrate to China. You cannot walk and they do not have money to take a cruise ship.

You are showing some of the extreme ignorance that is common in people on the Left. The United states takes in more legal immigrants and i*****l i*******ts every year by a far margin than any other country on the Planet. Only half-a-dozen countries have populations that are greater than 20% immigrants, and the United states is one of them. There is no country in the World that lets people cross their borders without thoroughly checking out who they are, and that is if they decide to let them in at all.

Talk about silly statements, you think that Mexicans aren't emigrating to China because they don't have money? There are poor people all over the World who find ways to get into rich Western Countries over long distances.

To start with, half of our i*****l i*******ts come from outside the Western Hemisphere. Africans cross the Mediterranean Sea to get to Europe. Australia, which sits out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, gets tens of thousands of refugees from Asia every year, thousands of miles across open water. They all could walk to China, but don't, for obvious reasons.

You have apparently been reading all the Left-wing propaganda that smears Americans as xenophobic and r****t. You don't realize it yet, but you live in the most tolerant and racially accepting country in the World.

Yep, I haven't heard such a preposterous statement as "the rest of the World does a better job of allowing immigrants than we do" in a long time. It had to be responded to.

So now the question is "Who pays the tariff"? President Trump has been telling everyone that China has paid millions into our treasury because of the tariffs on steel coming in from that country. THAT IS A LIE!
The tariff is paid by the importer (buyer) not the exporter (seller). In other words anyone buying steel from China pays the cost of that steel, which includes the tariff. The BUYER pays the tariff (which goes into the US treasury). Anyone buying steel from China will pay the tariff - NOT CHINA! The buyer may absorb the extra cost but more likely will pass the extra cost along to the final buyer - the consumer (you).
Before you write a response that says the president is not lying, do a bit of research about tariffs; you will find out that the buyer pays - NOT the seller. China has not paid a nickel into our treasury.

You left out part of the story.... by equalizing pricing you get more local (ie U.S. steel) purchased by U.S. buyers, thus adding to OUR economy and hurting the economy of the tariffed country.

Be more honest.

I'm not sure of your gist, but if you are talking about "equalizing pricing" by slapping tariffs on foreign competition, it does not equalize pricing, it artificially distorts pricing, making local U.S. buyers pay more for things (like steel). This is a net loss for our economy because we don't have as much money left over to buy other things. Only the steel companies get more money, and they are a tiny fraction of our population. You can even make the argument that it is an artificial "redistribution of wealth."

An example is sugar. The U.S. has effectively driven out foreign sugar from our markets through tariffs going back 200 years. The result is that we pay double or triple the price for sugar than the rest of the World. While sugar is not a comparably expensive item for an individual mom, it is when you are running a candy or cookie company. This is why Nabisco recently moved their factories to Mexico. They can buy sugar down there at half the price, ship their cookies up here, and make more money than before.

Canada shut out dairy products from the U.S. a long time ago. Their consumers pay something like double or triple what we do for everyday products like milk and eggs.

The entire notion of trading with other countries stems from the fact that different cultures have different sk**ls and resources that can produce things more efficiently than others. If every country had the same exact sk**ls and resources, it would be ridiculous to trade at all. I takes time, effort and money to move this stuff around the World.

Raising taxes on rich business owners, who really pays those taxes? We the consumer pays for those tax increases in higher prices on goods and services, yet progressives have no problem with that.

It isn't just about steel, it is about tariff's China places on our goods. China is not our friend and we should be hard on them. They are basically thieves and the playing field needs to be more level, however they accomplish that.

I did a little checking, and the top 5 washing machines made in America are by Whirlpool, General Electric, SpeedQueen, Amana, and Hotpoint. G.E., Whirlpool, Maytag, Viking, and Dacor all manufacture large appliances such as refrigerators, dryers, dishwashers, and oven ranges in the U.S.A.

“Which appliances are still American-made?”
Consumer Reports News: April 19, 2011 06:00 PM

Some quintessential American names like GE, Walmart, Oracle and Caterpillar have been adding more jobs abroad while shedding them in the U.S., according this report in today’s Wall Street Journal. But Consumer Reports has found at least a few U.S. and foreign manufacturers that are still building fridges, stoves, and other home appliances right here.

Viking, Dacor, Thermador, Sub-Zero, and Wolf (which was acquired by Sub-Zero in 2000) are among the companies that produce most of their appliances in U.S. factories. “We’ve just bought a 400,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Arizona,” Sub-Zero spokesman Paul Leuthe told Consumer Reports. “It’s a matter of keeping production here where our quality standards can be more closely monitored.”

While those brands also carry premium price tags, Whirlpool, Maytag (which is owned by Whirlpool) and GE are among the more-mainstream names that build appliances both stateside and overseas. And foreign-based manufacturers like Bosch and Electrolux also maintain factories in the U.S.

But that doesn’t mean everything these brands sell is actually made here. For instance, Whirlpool’s Cabrio and Vantage and Maytag’s Maxima and Bravos washers and dryers are made in Clyde, Ohio and Marion, Ohio. And all of Maytag’s top -compartment refrigerators, including French door models, are made in Amana, Iowa, while Whirlpool makes its Resource Saver dishwasher in Findlay, Ohio and some ranges in Tulsa, Oklahoma. But other lines and models can come from other places.

Nor is a fridge or dishwasher built in America necessarily American-made. Indeed, items labeled “Made in America” must have all their significant parts and processing of U.S. origin according to Federal Trade Commission rules. Otherwise, you may find them labeled with phrases like "Made in U.S.A of U.S. and imported parts" or “Assembled in U.S.A.”

What is or isn’t American-made is also a shifting landscape. A GE spokeswoman told Consumer Reports GE is investing $1 billion in new product lines made in Louisville, Kentucky, including front-loading washers and matching dryers, the GeoSpring hybrid water heater and French-door refrigerators. Additional investments in other refrigerator plants in Bloomington, Indiana, Selmer, Tennessee and Decatur, Illinois should make GE the largest domestic refrigerator manufacturer.

Germany’s Bosch produces dishwashers as well as cooking and laundry appliances for its own brand and its U.S.-based Thermador subsidiary in New Bern, South Carolina and La Follette, Tennessee. But the company plans to end U.S. production of its Vision line of washers and dryers this spring.

Frigidaire, which is owned by Sweden’s Electrolux, produces dishwashers for both brands at their Kinston, North Carolina, plant. Another factory in Anderson, South Carolina, builds 15- to 18-cubic foot top-freezer refrigerators and premium wine coolers. But all other refrigerators are built in Juarez, Mexico. Frigidaire’s freezers are built in St. Cloud, Minnesota, along with some of Electrolux built-in premium refrigeration products, though the company recently relocated washer and dryer production from Webster City, Iowa, to Juarez.

And at least a few jobs are coming back to the U.S. at the expense of Canadian workers. Production of Frigidaire gas and induction cooktops moves from L’Assumption, Quebec, to Memphis, Tennessee, in 2013.

First, U.S. is usually #1 in the entire world in legal immigration

Second, your second statement is so r****t, arrogant, and xenophobic it cannot even be addressed.....

Incorrect, Steve.....I’m not sure you get the gist. In the case of steel and specifically China (but not limited to China), China has been subsidizing THEIR steel production while taxing the import of, say, U.S. steel for a long time. THIS has been artificially distorting pricing, making local U.S. buyers pay more for things (like steel), which is a net loss for our economy because we don't have as much money left over to buy other things.

Yes, they have been violating treaties.

Our “tariffs” are a response to their illegal and immoral activity and serve as a way to even the playing field so our companies can FAIRLY compete.....nothing more, nothing less.
