Ok, so we would still have to look at what percentage of the cost of an appliance the steel makes and see how that compares to the tariff costs. Also domestic producers may increase the steel price even with the tariffs. I would think the cost increase of steel would be very small. Also these are not items that are purchased very often. I last purchased a washer and dryer in 2005. I would think other things could drive costs too. When I worked at GM they raised car prices about 4-5 percent per year on average. After a while that adds up and you end up with $50k cars, or more. And GM would always be beating up suppliers to cut prices...to the point of putting them out of business. It is a complex issue...
