No they are not. The average salary has been increasing every single year since 1951 according to this government tabulation. That even includes the Carter and Obama years.

I lived in Sharon, PA area for 40+ years so I know of the Pittsburgh and Cleveland areas...worked in both even. Moved to Harrisburg, NC and while taxes are lower here the roads and schools are not much better, just newer mostly.

But the question was is are any appliances even made in the US anymore? I don’t think it is many so if the prices are going up it may not because of the steel tariffs...

I don't agree with your assessment that one country benefits from the tariff and another does not. They both suffer. The only ones that benefit are the tiny workforce in the industry whose competitors have been shut out by the tariffs. Everybody else in that same country suffers because they now have to pay higher prices to companies that are not as efficient as the foreign companies that were shut out.

It is already happening months after we imposed the recent tariffs on Chinese steel. Many household appliances like washing machines, driers and refrigerators have jumped significantly in price. New cars are expected to follow suit.

I did a little checking, and the top 5 washing machines made in America are by Whirlpool, General Electric, SpeedQueen, Amana, and Hotpoint. G.E., Whirlpool, Maytag, Viking, and Dacor all manufacture large appliances such as refrigerators, dryers, dishwashers, and oven ranges in the U.S.A.

Ok, so we would still have to look at what percentage of the cost of an appliance the steel makes and see how that compares to the tariff costs. Also domestic producers may increase the steel price even with the tariffs. I would think the cost increase of steel would be very small. Also these are not items that are purchased very often. I last purchased a washer and dryer in 2005. I would think other things could drive costs too. When I worked at GM they raised car prices about 4-5 percent per year on average. After a while that adds up and you end up with $50k cars, or more. And GM would always be beating up suppliers to cut prices...to the point of putting them out of business. It is a complex issue...

So, why does Trump feel the need to lie about who is paying the money?

If he told the public that we are paying for the tariffs he has imposed ... do I have to go any farther?
Didn't he also say Mexico would pay for the wall? One might ask, "Why is he asking the Democrats for the money?" The only money they can give to him is OURS.
It just sounds better to say someone else is footing the bill ... China , Mexico. The man just lies.

Thank you but I already knew you already knew that. My attempt was to stimulate some thought among those who turned your thread into one about tariffs rather than one about Trump lying. Fools mission I readily admit.

What a silly statement. Two points - First : the rest of the world does a much better job of allowing immigrants than we do.
Second- how would immigrants from Mexico and South America immigrate to China. You cannot walk and they do not have money to take a cruise ship.

So if I accept your idea that because we have e******ns we can v**e in people who will do what we the people desire I have one question for you...why are we still paying income taxes? One of the fundamental rules of economics is that people tend to act in their own self interest...politicians would be no different, right.

If let's say we put a 1000 percent tariff on Chinese steel then it is likely that nobody here would by Chinese steel and no tariffs would be paid to our government treasury by US consumers. China would either sell less steel or sell to others, perhaps at lower prices. US suppliers might raise prices or increase their production or both.Economics is complicated.

Another thought, if i*****l a***ns are such a great benefit to our country then wouldn't they also be a great benefit to any other country's economy? But they seem to want to come here for some reason... Not to China or other economic powers...not that those countries would take them anyway.

You are either mistaken or purposely telling lies. Other countries have done a much better job than we have in allowing immigrants. Only a fool would think that immigrants from Mexico or South America could go to China. They cannot afford a cruise ship and so they depend on walking.

I am neither lying nor mistaken. But you are quite ignorant and it shows. The US is the most generous country in the world.

It is not the trip that is the problem with going to China, Russia, Japan or Saudi Arabia. It is the fact that they would not be allowed to go illegally to those countries and many others. Even getting in legally would be extremely difficult if not impossible there. Try going to Mexico illegally and see how that works out for you...

How many i******s are living with you? Maybe you need to take off your doors and post your welcome sign so they will know you are there for them. Do you lock your doors, if so that is wrong too...
