The question wasn't why is 11/11 a holiday. I'm fairly sure there's a lot of people who know why 11/11 is a holiday. I say that because I know why, and if I know why then I'm sure a whole lot of others know why.
The question, although worded really poorly, is why is 11/11 only once a year?! It should be, why is veterans day only once a year?!
11/11 occurs only once a year because it is a calendar date and calendar dates are based on the rotation and revolution of the planet.
Veterans day could be any date but as you explained, what was once known as armistice day was changed to veterans day in 1954. For a brief time veterans day was celebrated on the 4th Monday in October but that was changed in 1978. Veterans day is now celebrated on 11/11 unless 11/11 is a weekend day. If 11/11 is a Saturday, the Federal holiday is celebrated on Friday 11/10. If 11/11 is a Sunday, the Federal holiday is celebrated on Monday 11/12. This ensures there will always be a 3 day holiday weekend.

My friend, a career-long Wall St. guy, says the same about the stock market and boom and bust cycles in the economy; that we keep making the same mistakes again and again.

The Anthem Veterans Memorial in Phoenix is totally unique. On each November 11th, precisely at 11:11 a.m, the sun shines through the monument onto the seal of the United States.

11/11/ is STILL Armistice Day here. A very sad and solemn day indeed.

I worked for a major oil company for about 15 years after I got out of the Air Force in 1968. For the first few years I was there, Veterans Day was a holiday for us. Then the company took away the Veterans Day holiday and gave us the day after Thanksgiving instead. A lot of employees took a vacation day for the day after T-day. After the change we didn't have to.
