First time with son’s Nikon 200 - 500

I borrowed our oldest son’s lens for some “quality” time yesterday on a beaver pond the Dept. Of Natural Resources manages. I spent a couple of hours chasing the resident ducks and have included a couple of the best shots. I need work on my technique, all are hand held, but I’m relatively satisfied with the results overall. The shots are cropped of course. Comments for improvement are appreciated.

Your son may have some trouble getting that lens back. I like the Mallard pair but I would crop it a bit differently, moving the two birds closer to the middle of the frame. Interesting light. Was it a bit overcast? I would love to see a bit more of the iridescence on the male's head and I would love to see the females head turned a bit more toward you. But for experimenting looks good to me.

Nice set. What light conditions did you have?

The sky was high overcast a 1:1 day the birds were a long way out (est. 100 yards or more) and all shots were hand held. Thanks for asking.

It was high overcast, no shadows, a 1:1 day. Thanks.
