If you have a PC with Windows 10 updated, it’s a piece of cake. Just plug into a USB port and follow the prompts. I have an iPhone XR, no problem. Just be sure to watch the screen on your phone. You have to answer Allow when it asks to let Photos access this devise. If you don’t do that step, it just keeps telling you something is wrong and to try again. It even let# you access photos that are on the iCloud in addition to the ones on your phone.
This has worked for me with Windows 7 as well as 10. But I have to use the Apple cable that came with the phone. For some reason, aftermarket cables (at least the ones I have) will charge the phone but are not reliable for file transfers.
