I need advice as to exactly what I'm age processing program will perform properly with my Chromebook. My goal is to be able to shoot and process "RAW" images. I am not a technical digital Photographer, have begun my Digital journey at 65 years of age, now 68. Thus far I have only shot Jpeg images, but realized I need to learn and shoot Raw to get the best possible results from my Digital Photography. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Chromebooks use Google Chrome OS - they are not compatible with Windows and Mac programs, so you will need to use an online app. Read this:

Please note that Polarr just converts the raw to jpg; your results may not be equal to those achieved by a Windows or Mac computer, with high-powered editors like Photoshop.

You have asked this question several times in the past:

If you are serious about your raw editing, you'll need a computer that has either the iOS (Mac) operating system, or Windows (IBM PC compatible) computer. As pointed out earlier, a Chromebook laptop is really only designed to use online apps and can't use powerful apps that computers need for processing raw images. You can do some editing with the Chromebook, and you may want to try that first, but Chromebooks don't usually have enough power to handle complicated editing.

I don't want to sound dismissive or condescending, but if you haven't been able to advance with the advice given in the past, perhaps you are chasing an unrealistic goal? Shooting raw is one thing; having to learn all about computers just to edit those files is something else altogether.

There is an app called befunky that I have on my Chromebook. It has an amazing amount of editing tools + fun effects. I pay $35/year for all the features (the paid version displays no ads):

Try it out on yours with your jpgs. I'll be happy to help with any specific questions.

Silverman, I am glad you want to become a better photographer and going to raw is a great way of starting. For editing software, I recommend Lightroom. It is the gold standard and has more online documentation, help and tutorials than all the other programs combined. Learning it is worth the effort.

As for your Chromebook, I presume you can run LR on it. I have LR on my Samsung Galaxy Tab A which runs Android but LR is the mobile version. I do not know if the larger Chromebook has all the LR functions but even if it does not, the mobile version will be a good starting point. Learning Photoshop can wait until you need it. LR will take you a long way. Should Chromebook not run the full LR so that you need a computer that does, look at buying a new computer as you would upgrading your camera and lenses. It might hurt the wallet but you will be happier with the better tools.

Good luck and keep us posted with your progress.
