Dam, I've got gas and can not decide between the D5600 Or the D7100.....I love the features on the 5600 but I love the expanded ISO on the 7100. The 5600 has a good iso range but I think i'd like the iso 50 on the 7100......Both are on sale at the local camera store......I will get the body only and add a lens, not kit lenses. I'm thinking of the 18-140 or the 70-300, I really like the 18-140 and that may be my choice. decisionis decisions......it's gonna happen today......any help?

Thinking of a doubler too, but the guy at the store says it won't work with either lens I am looking at. I thought the douibler would work with any af lens....Gotta do some more research on that......that don't have to happen today...

3 things the 5600 doesn’t have that the 7100 does:
In-body focusing motor so you can use the older AF lenses.
Pop up flash will control one or more remote flashes.
Pentamirror vs brighter pentaprism viewfinder.
If none interests you, it would be a harder decision.
Happy holidays!

hi frank - i had the D5600 for approx a year then a pal offered me a D7100 at a good price = fell in love with the D7100 - heavier and more substancial than D5600 - i must stress i am very much a newbie where photography is concerned - i part ex the D5600 for a D7500 basically because once i had the D7100 i stopped using the D5600 and ugraded too the D7500 but i still take out the D7100 as my 1st choice - i have the 18-140 lense and use it as my favourite walk around lens and for me it does the job on both cameras .

The 5600 is a beginners camera. It’s ok but you will soon tire of it.
Get the 7100 & the 18-140. I had that combo for years before I switched to Fuji.
It traveled the world with me.
Never let me down.

The D5600 is a current model while the D7100 was discontinued 3 years ago and replaced by the D7200, a better choice.
But also note that both the D5600 AND D7200 are also now out of production and will be replaced soon with newer models, probably early in the new year.

Went to the local store and played with both....5600 and 7200.......I ended up getting the 7200 and the 18-140 f3.5 with vr.......the 5600 was to small and light, I fely like it was older than my 3300.........the only thing I really like about it was the movable screen.......but the 7200 is so much mor camera and not that much more money really.

So now the playing begins.

BTW the cannon rebel I picked up for $20 bucks ended up being a super camera. I took it with me and used one of their demo lenses, 18-55, and took a couple shots iniside the store. I was impressed for an 8 meg camera.......super sharp..... B&H has a 55-250 used, for $95.......so for $115 i'v got a dandy starter camera, i'm going to give my wife........she is getting interested.....

The D7100 is older technology, but it does have features lacking on the D5600. Try some comparison sites.

Read comparisons and specs, and decide what features are important to you.

IMHO..Do not go for the D7100, but go for the D7200, which has a much larger Buffer!..All else is the same, and it is built like a tank, and will also accommodate almost ANY older Nikon lenses which the D5600 will not.. Good luck on your choice!!.And..Happy Holidays!!

Neither. Be patient. The D7200 would be the best compromise.

Even though the D5600 is three years newer, photo quality will be the same for both cameras. You'll have a higher resolution screen and larger vu-finder with the D7100 and it's weather sealed. The D5600 has a flip-out screen. In my opinion, the D7100 is a better camera and there isn't a whole lot of difference worth mentioning between the D7100 vs. D7200.

It was a great choice...love my d7200 with either my 18-140 or 18-300. mostly use the 18-300 but put the 18-140 o for the holidays...

Thanks Jerry......I did a lot of reviewing....I only had a grand, which was a big factor....I really like the flip out screen on the 5600.....When I went to the local store to feel them out, I decided I probabbly would never use the flip out (or at leas not very often) and when I got the 7200 in my hands, I thought "Wow" for the couple hundred extra (i'll make it work), there was no comparison. I fell in love right there.....and got the 7200....It is built SO much better. It may not be a pro camera, but it is dam close! Hans on is always a big advantage!

Got the 18-140 3.5 vr lens with it...Wow what a lens.....it's heavy too....good glass and body......it will probabbly becom my walk around lens.

Read the manual and am now going through it with the camera in hand.....
