The Acropolis at Athens’s Greece is probably the best known assemblage of ancient ruins in the world. Here are photos of the Odeon of Herodes Amplitheatre, the Propylaea (entrance to Acropolis), the Parthenon, the Erechtheion (temple dedicated to Athena and Poseidon, and views of Athens from the Acropolis.

Nice shots. Was there in October. Arrived Athens late afternoon and learned the security people were striking the next day. Ran up there with only 30 minutes to closing. Next day I got this shot from the hill.

Nice shots. Whenever I am at an old ruin I always wonder what it was like at the time it was constructed and who were the people, who lived there at the time.

The Athenian Acropolis is indeed a spectacular site. Modern City planning demanded from the architects to keep buildings low, no more than six stories high, to allow visibility of it from all over the city.
As an Archaeologist and a native Athenian, I also advise photographers to follow a basic rule of aesthetics that suggests rendering the remains from the best possible perspective so that the resulting image would assist the viewer to imagine the original.

Unfortunately, History saw in WWII, when the NAZI's stored their ammo in the Acropolis in hopes the Allies would not even look there because of this historical edifice. But due to this dastardly deed, the Allies found out and had to bomb the Acropolis to prevent even more deaths in that war. Preservation and precision bombing allowed much of the outside to remain.
