I made the switch from LR to CO a year ago and base on experience I fully agree with the author. The commentaries to the article are also very interesting.
Happy Holidays Season

I also agree with the article. I was a LR user,( Stand alone), for years, then a friend sang the praises of C1 and I bought it. I will say that there was a very steep leaning curve, and the book that I bought was useless. however C1 has marvelous education and webinars. Their tech support is FANTASTIC. I would email them in the am , Mountain time, and I would usually get a replay back in 30 minutes or less. All that being said, I have neither used , nor upgraded for more than 2 years. The reason being is that I now use On1 for just about all my raw processing, and I may then use Topaz Studio to finish up. The cost of on1 is considerably less, and with Topaz, once you have purchased something from them, all upgrades are free.

I'm interested in a LR / PS alternative, however, this comparison didn't really account for the fact that the Adobe subscription includes Photoshop in the price and all its features. It was only comparing Capture 1 to LR. It seems that the advantages of C1 ( faster spot heal and layers) are PS features. If C1 is as capable as both LR AND PS I'd consider it for the other advantages and despite the additional cost. However, it seems that there may be times when an additional editing program would be required in addition to C1. For those that use C1, do you ever need to do editing in other software to get more PS type features ? ( I saw the previous poster mentioned Topaz )

I use CO and Zoner Photo Studio. There some things that CO does not do that ZPS does. Both programs has good support and education on using the program.

I tried both Phase on Capture One, and Adobe, and several others after Apple announced the end of support for Aperture. I had a hard time deciding between Capture One and Adobe in the 30 day period. So I bought Capture One and subscribed to the Photographers plan for a year. Using both softwares, I liked the results I got using Capture One. I found that using Capture One I could get images that “pop” more easily and quickly than using Adobe. But then I got a new camera and to get raw support for Capture One, required me to buy a newly released version, at the cost of hundreds of dollars. After I had just bought the prior version Capture One software a month before. Adobe in the meantime pushed out a real time software update that added my new camera to ACR. I quit using Capture One after that. It is clear that Adobe offers better value for the money. Adobe is constantly working on the software, updating fixing buts adding new cameras, features. Adobe is A big company yes. But them Adobe is composed of creative professionals who are dedicated to supporting the graphics and photography communities.

I have been happy with the Adobe Photographers Plan. I am not looking back.
