Northern Express - PM #1225

This past Saturday, I 'chased' the PM #1225. I started in Owasso where people were getting on board and ready for the one hour trip north to Ashley. After a few shots there, I drove to Carland where the train passed by an old grain elevator. Very rustic and scenic. After the #1225 passed through Carland, drove to where the tracks cross M57. I can neither confirm or deny that the car GPS was vocally reminding me of the posted speed limit. Made it with a few minutes to spare.
This was the last run of the Northern Express for this year, however next Saturday is the Santa Express which offers the same engine and more dated passenger cars, so I'm told. I'll be waiting!

My first time shooting the big train. Next time, more room for the steam exhaust.

Fabulous! Great machine, beautifully captured. #2 you can almost feel the ground shake. Be interested to know exposure details...lens focal length, aperture, etc.

Thanks.
On the details, shameless promotion to take the blog link. The information and the stories are there. But in numbers, I was at ISO 1000. First time out, want to be sure I had the horsepower if I need it. This weekend, will probably dial back to 800. Both are at f/5 and 44,52 mm. Shutter spped was in excess of 1/2000 sec.

Kurt, I have to agree with your statement about more room for the exhaust. That is my issue photography her as well. Each time out is a learning experience. Sometimes, including "everything" looks good. Other times, leaving something to the imagination works as well. Sometimes I've found that that mind projects "visuals" that aren't there. Good shots, all around.

We should hook up some time and just go shoot trains, steam traction engines, old cars, etc.

Some club members and I are going to Owasso tomorrow (12/22) to shoot the Santa Express. We know it is not the full route to Ashely so we'll be adapting to whatever we can find out. Praying for some snow!

If you are interested in shooting model trains, our club gets out to the Detroit Model Rail Road Club in Holly occasionally for a total access shoot. This year we're working on a March date. Just let me know.

Thanks for the great shots of the PM Berkshire. I watched it being restored but have yet to see it operating.
