Friend wants to decoupage some prints. The material she will pour on the prints will cause them to “run”. Anybody have any suggestions on how to “seal” the prints and make the waterproof??
Laminate them with thin material (pre-test to be sure the decoupage goo doesn’t react with the laminate).
Or spray them with photo lacquer. Again, test a small sample.
Liquitex professional matt varnish , satin , and gloss , it is a vinyl based product do not brush or roll , spray it 2 coats . It increases life span of a Ink print on a quality canvas with pigment base inks from 100 to 200 years .P.S. I use it every day to print for other people.
Thanks for the answers. Problem solved. RMJ
I tested many ways and waxes.... final best technique, paraffin. Melt grandma's Jelly sealing paraffin from a local grocery store and pour into flat pan, like for cookies. Buy a flat paint pad with the short nap fibers, not the sponge type. Rub the pad on the cool room temp paraffin. Mount the photo on a glass surface taping the to be cut off borders ... use the blue easy remove tape. Rub lightly with the waxed paint pad. You will notice a slight waxed look when viewed at a very low angle. When the photo is tilted at a 45* angle drops of water will bead and roll off.
UV Ozone protection is perhaps enhanced. Note that the Paraffin will yellow slightly in perhaps 20 years. Another drawback is that it is not expensive and difficult enough and so will be po-po by the UHH experts.
