Senior citizens

Senior citizens are constantly being criticized for every conceivable deficiency of the modern world, real or imaginary. We know we take responsibility for all we have done and do not try to blame others.

HOWEVER, upon reflection, we would like to point out that it was NOT senior citizens who took:

The melody out of music,

The pride out of appearance,

The courtesy out of driving,

The romance out of love,

The commitment out of marriage,

The responsibility out of parenthood,

The togetherness out of the family,

The learning out of education,

The service out of patriotism,

The Golden Rule from rulers,

The nativity scene out of cities,

The civility out of behavior,

The refinement out of language,

The dedication out of employment,

The prudence out of spending,

The ambition out of achievement or

God out of government and school.

And we certainly are NOT the ones who eliminated patience and tolerance from personal relationships and interactions with others!

And, we DO understand the meaning of patriotism, and remember those who have fought and died for our country.

Just look at the Seniors with tears in their eyes and pride in their hearts, as they stand at attention as the American or Canadian Flag passes by in a parade!

YES, I'M A SENIOR CITIZEN!

I'm the life of the party..... even if it lasts until 8 p.m.

I'm very good at opening childproof caps….. with a hammer.

I'm awake many hours before my body allows me to get up.

I'm smiling all the time, because I can't hear a thing you're saying.

I'm sure everything I can't find is in a safe secure place, somewhere.

I'm beginning to realize that aging is not for wimps.

“Aging is not for whomps.”
Yup.

You sound like a ton of laughs. No shrinking violet you are.

Pila, just another septuagenarian. (Spell check?)

I certainly agree with the items you have listed. Especially the one on music. What the kids today are producing sucks!

I disagree with some of those as I believe the responsibility for some of the things listed do rest squarely on the shoulders of us boomers, usnpilot! And, RCJets, remember that many of our parents thought our music was atrocious! Just sayin. . .

Oh, thank you for your service, usnpilot! I greatly admire the courage and nerve of our armed services pilots! Landing a fixed wing aircraft on a moving 300 foot runway at 150 mph is an amazing feat of nerve and skill!

I agree with a lot of this but there are some things I would temper:

usnpilot wrote:
...The refinement out of language...

One of my favorite poets is Ogden Nash, who mastered the language by means of force and violence

usnpilot wrote:
...The dedication out of employment,...

I believe employers also have a lot to do with this one

usnpilot wrote:

And the banks helped a lot

When I manage to get the cap open I take a pair of wire cutters, chisels, and/or knives and cut out the protection mechanism. The other option is to buy an assortment of corks and replace the cap altogether. In extreme cases, the container gets replaced.

But you shouldn't stop at childproof caps. Blister packs are another problem.

As a farmer I generally wake up around 4 or 5.

100% correct.

Excellent posting. I copied and sent to all on my mail list. Most all are seniors too. (70+ years)

Right on!
Years ago I put up one of my guns (so the kids would not find it); can't find it to this day!

Based on my own experience, I would ask the kids where it is.
