It's a toss up between my 24-70 f2.8L II and my 70-200 f2.8L II....I have to say the 24-70 since it gives better options for street scenes yet still captures great vistas as well.

In your own opinion what is your favorite all around carry lens that you want on your cameras 99% of the time. While walking down the street or in the mountains. If you could have just one what would it be. Gary D

It would have to be the 24-70, although I generally carry a prime and a wide angle, too. The 24-70/2.8 is definitely my favorite.

My response is the same as Bill's. The 24-70 f2.8 is the best OVERALL lens for getting wide angle to short tele shots.
It really is a no brainer choice.

It certainly is the most-used (equivalent field of view) lens in my bag, and in my experience. Second-most important to me is the 70-200mm f/2.8 category. That pick is a 35-100mm f/2.8 on my Micro 4/3. It would be close to a 50-150mm on APS-C.

Birders, nature photographers, and those covering sports have entirely different needs (fast telephotos and zooms, generally 400mm and longer FF equivalent field of view).

Landscape and real estate photographers tend to want something like a 12-24mm or 16-35mm on full frame, or a 10-22mm on APS-C, or a 7-14mm or 8-18mm on Micro 4/3...

I do a lot of copy work, so I keep a macro lens (30mm on Micro 4/3) in my bag at all times. It's super sharp, and also does a great job on full length portraits.

The lens that is on my camera most of the time walking around is my 24-120mm F/4.

Canon EOS Rebel t2i here. I only have three lenses. Mostly its my 50mm f1.8 as my walkaround for its sharpness in closeups and landscapes. As needed I switch to my 55-250mm, which is acceptably sharp, hardly ever to my original kit lens, 18-55mm. Budget dictates I stay with these three, and they suit me fine

My carry around lens is a Nikkor 18-300mm. I probably use it more than 95% of the time.

I recommend a Tamron 18-400 or 18-270 or 16-300. I have a Canon APSC size sensor (7D MKii). Was in Australia and had an 18-135mm and 70-300mm. Lost lots of possible shots because I was changing lenses quite often. 135mm wasn't long enough and 70mm wasn't wide enough. Went to Japan and Alaska with a wide range Tamron and never had to change lenses.

Mine is the Nikon 24-120 on my D800e. Works for most situations I encounter.
