Every lens I own. I can't pick one.
Each has it's own use. I have zooms, a macro. I have a 1.8 for indoors. I have a walk around lens.
I will say that, they are all "pro" lenses. When I got my 1st L lens that was it for me.
I am OCD, I demand tack sharp images from myself.
To that end I use quality lenses, tripods, wireless remotes, any thing that's helps.
I do have a Canon 100-400mm L coming this Saturday.
When I get a new lens, I try to use it exclusivley for a month.
Kick the tires and see how handles in the cruves.

For a walk around on a full frame camera camera it is the 24-70.

The 24 -70 f/2.8 on a full frame dslr has only one drawback as I get older. You guessed it, weight. It is one of two reasons I decided to try the Z6 with its 24 - 70. Too early to tell, but it might do the trick.

I have 35mm/FF cameras. My "default" lens is a 28-200mm Nikkor AF-G. It is as light as my 50mm f/1.4 prime lens and not much bigger and the images are great.

Of what I now have, probably the Sigma 18-35 on my Canon 80D. But I do want either a 24-70 2.8 L or a Sigma 24-105 f/4 Art.

If I could have just one it would be my AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G. That is the lens that spends the most time on my Nikon Df, and the lens I most like photographing with. In reality though, I choose the lens most appropriate to where and what I will be shooting. I prefer Prime lenses to one-size-fits-all zooms and the 50mm on a FX camera offers great versatility without the size, weight and cost of zooms.

I generally walk around with a 70-200 2.8 on my canon 1d mk 4 which is a crop. And a 24-70 2.8 on my 1ds mk 3 which is full frame

Try the 12-35mm f/2.8 on a Lumix G9. It cuts out about 2/3 of the weight of the FF beast and a 24-70 f/2.8. The stabilization is way better, too.

That day may come.

For now, the second reason for the Z6 is to add VR to a couple of old telephotos, a 300 and 500 F/4.0.

It's a tossup between the Nikon 24-120 VR and older 28-105. It depends on how much weight I want to carry. The 24-120 is heavier but has VR. The 28-105 is lighter, smaller and sharper to my eyes, but I sometimes need the VR. I have a few primes that are a bit sharper, especially my 50mm f/1.4 when stopped down a bit.

FX Nikon 28-300
DX Nikon 18-200.

All of my lenses - if I am walking around in the city - a 45mm F2.8, looking for birds and wildlife - a 150-600, landscapes - 45mm and 85mm - both PC-E, and so on. I have no use for 5X or greater zooms - they are too limiting and typically only do one fairly narrow range of focal length better than the rest of the range.

When I go out and I really have no idea what I am going to encounter - then I take a Sony RX10M4 and resign myself to getting what it can - most of the time I am surprised at the very decent quality, but also understand the limitations of a 1" sensor, and I am OK with that - it's only 2.5 lbs so it's a compromise.

I usually take just one or two lenses suited for what I’m going to shoot, but if I had to choose just one for anything, either a 24-70 f2.8 or 24-105 f4 IS (I’m always struggling to decide whether the extra “reach” and IS of the 24-105 is worth the extra stop of the 24-70) for FF and an 18-55 for crop.

The answer is, acoarst, an evolving thing. THIS WEEK,
and for whoknows howlong, it's a full format fisheye !
I use it in classique HCB fashion ... one camera, one
lens, and thaz my visual approach for the whole week
or month or forever or whatever. And so, speaking of
time, much as I despise "artsy" titles, I loooove puns.
Thus the little sax man gets a title: "Alfpast Midnight",
which is pretty accurate +/- 15 minutes. Sax sounded
insane under the bridge, but there's "zero-minus" light
under there :-( He was wailing loud cuz he'd lost Saxy
Santa somehow, and so he was signaling his location.

OTOH, long view rearview mirrorwise, any incarnation
of the "35/2.0 Summicron" ... any good brand. FWIW,
the posted example is a 40/2.8, but hey, "picky-picky".
My approach to the 35/2.0 involves a bit of "grab now,
crop later", so what's a few mm between friends ?

EDIT: Feeling a bit "impure" about the 40/2.8, so I've
added an authentic, minimally cropped, 35/2.0 grab,
3rd image [ancient 35/2.0 Nikkor on Sony a7-II]:
