If you want something free, I agree with the posters who recommend Adobe Photoshop Express. If you want something with more functionality, yet easy to learn and at a moderate price I would recommend Luminar for around $50.

Just to be clear, Photoshop Express and Photoshop Elements are very different programs. Photoshop Elements has been around for a long time. Photoshop Express is a year or two old.

Aftershot Pro 3 is a good, simple, straight forward program. You can buy it bundled with Paint Shop Pro reasonably priced. I'm a Corel fan.

FastStone Image Viewer is a good basic, starter program. It's free so nothing lost if/when you outgrow it. It's more than just a viewer however.

Faststone image viewer also comes with a very good separate downloadable tutorial. Works great!

My "go to" software for image editing is Perfectly Clear Complete V3 ... from Athentech. It is a master at making all your photos look magnitudes better, even with using just the defaults in different presets. Or, you can start with the presets, and tweek the resulting image even further to your liking.

So far as I know PS Express is an iOS or Android app. I have it on my iPad and what it amounts to is a collection of pre-set operations, some with sliders. My copy does not do layers. I consider it an experimenting app to judge whether full bore Photoshop is worth the struggle.

And, a Windows app. I have Photoshop express on my Windows 10 laptop, my Android tablet and my Android phone.

Can I help you get it installed on your computer?

I can suggest two:

(1). Skylum (formerly MacPhun) puts out Luminar and they are just about to release a new version. It has a very simple interface, lets you do basic non-destructive photo editing on RAW files and has lots of filters and presets to enhance your photos. It is way easier to use than anything put out by Adobe, including PS Elements. Not sure if new release will include it or not, but as yet there is no "Organizer" like PS Elements or Catalog System like Lightroom.

(2). On 1's Photo RAW 2019, I have been using On1 for three years but had reservations until now. This latest version (2019) does everything that you can do in Lightroom or PS Elements and also lets you work in Layers mode like Photoshop. What may be one of its best features is the BROWSE function, which gives you access to your photos -- and lets you edit them -- from WHEREVER they are -- internal or external hard drive, desktop, Dropbox, other shared files, etc. It's not necessary to import your photos into catalogs like Lightroom makes you do. It used to be much more complicated, but On1 has really improved the user interface and access to tools. There is bound to be some learning curve, but keep in mind that it's pretty easy to do the basics to your raw files. You can learn the more complicated things over time. And there are plenty of training videos put out by On1 as well as others experts that appear on You Tube.

I have Photoshop CS4 and would not need PS Express on the MacBookPro. Thanks for the offer.

I have a Nikon D5600 and shot some video and it came out in black and white. Not having any luck trying to get it switched to color. How do I shoot the video in color?

I have used acdsee for the last 12 years. It is sophisticated enough for my needs an infinitely better than any of the free programmes I tried early in my career.I have found the company quite responsive to user suggestions and unlike the Adobe products, you can actually talk to a human being for their technical advice and help. Lastly, you own the program and are not merely renting it.

You can certainly do the same with all the Adobe products (speak to human being to get advice)! Their customer support is actually quite good! And no, you do not actually own THEIR software, you have permission to use it!
