Usually this blue heron at the park is pretty tolerant of me. But not yesterday. I stopped in my usual spot and had just enough time to take a few shots before he'd had enough and was gone!
This is about the only sharp one out of the entire burst.

Maybe his last royalty check for all the photos bounced? You did remember to mail it, didn't you?
I am from Ballard County and don't recall anyplace in Kentucky named Stamping Ground - Possum Trot and Monkey's Eye Brow, yes, but not Stamping Ground. Must be in the Eastern end near Big Salt Lick or Butcher Hollow.

Ballard County is extreme western KY, right? We took a photo excursion to Reelfoot Lake, TN, in that general area, a couple of months ago. Very strange and beautiful, with great photo ops of herons, egrets, ospreys, and eagles.
Stamping Ground is Bluegrass country, eight miles from Georgetown, and north of Lexington. Lots of history:

Yes, right where the Ohio and Mississippi join. I have lived in CA since the mid 60s, well a couple of years in a place called Vietnam. Ballard has a large Wildlife Refuge that among other things is on the migration route for ducks, geese and other birds as well as all the ones you saw at Reelfoot Lake plus a large population of wild turkeys deer etc.
I visited Reelfoot Lake once when I was a kid-that lake was formed overnight when the 1814 New Madrid earthquake dropped a range of low hills over 100 feet and the Mississippi actually ran backward for a while as the water rushed in to fill the lake.
The farm my Grandparents owned used to be in one of those "fall color" driving guides as a spot to see when the leaves changed. People had to find and drive a little two lane county highway to see it. My Grandmother used to talk to the people when they would park and get out to look and take pictures. The viewing spot the guide recommended was right across the road from the farm house. White clapboard farm house with green roof surrounded by shade and fruit trees then a long slope of pasture and fields with trees along the fence rows to a valley with a creek and up to hills on the other side with wood lots of various hardwood trees changing colors scattered all over both hills and the valley. Throw in grazing cattle and various birds.
Note from heron: Will watch for check, in the meantime there is a bunch of ducks right over there and they love posing for cameras.
I followed the link to your page - Outstanding!

Thanks all, glad you liked it.
Geegee, I used the Canon 100-400 L IS II at 400mm with a 1.4X TC. It is a great lens, anything better is out of my price range. lol!
