I posted this image in the Birds in Flight section a couple of months ago. Since then I've done some additional editing and I now think it's worthy of being posted here. Northern Gannet at the Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve, Newfoundland, Canada.

Looks worthy enough to be posted anywhere to me. Guy called ArtBob hangs out in another forum I'm sure could offer advice on the aesthetics of this image.

Excellent timing, but I think the bird could do with the shadows being lifted a bit.

I think it's truly wonderful. The detail on the bird is really nice. And I like how your used DOF to separate the foreground and bird from the background. Gives a sense of environment without my searching it for details. The colour is really nice and the density looks spot on to my eyes. Was this part of a burst, or a single frame? You caught a really nice moment.

I tried that R.G. but found that doing so lowered the contrast as well as the visual impact. As there is still lots of detail in the shadows, I elected to leave it at this stage.

Hi,Don,

I like the more generous crop of this one, but much prefer the gamma of the first one.

Glad to have you back from your travels hale and hearty!
