Epson scanning software bug

Due to a Windows 10 update, the Epson scanning software hangs up after a few scans so you have to restart both the scanner and software. Epson knows about this but does not plan to fix it. The fix is simple: run as administrator. I hope you avoid all the frustration and wasted time I experienced.

If you have your shortcut on the desktop, you can right click on it, go into the properties, and buried in that area is a checkbox you can tick that says run as administrator. Generally fixes a lot of issues like that.

Take a look at VueScan.

I had that issue a few years ago with my Epson flatbed. I uninstalled the software, rebooted, and reinstalled the software that I downloaded from Epson. So far so good even after a number of Win 10 updates.

I looked at it many years ago. I am satisfied with Epson. I want straight scans and then fix in LR and PS. What are the advantages to VueScan?

This is a common issue with hardware and software. Only a computer engineer can figure out a configuration enough to find conflicts. You were lucky. I reinstalled several times but to no avail. I even changed cables and ports.

Haven't had any issues at all with my Epson V600 or my V800. Both working perfect after all recent W10 updates.

That’s a fair question, and I can’t be specific with you. Sorry. I had issues with the Epson scan software several years ago and needed a replacement. Been using VueScan since then. I believe I can accurately state that it has lots more functionality and gives more control over the scan process. I can accurately state that it is stable software that works reliably. Mine was a mere recommendation. If the Epson software works for you, I’d encourage you to use it.

Thanks for the response. Scanning software is not a big thing for me. The scanner is the bigger issue. I just want the best possible scan and leave the rest to LR and PS.

Thank you for sharing! I am sure there are many who will benefit from that advice.
