Was out at the gardens the other night to enjoy the annual display of lights. These displays are awesome every year but I find it truly difficult to capture their beauty. Here are a few of my feeble attempts. (Best viewed in download.)

All are just beautiful, Dave! They remind me so much of the lights at Bellingrath Gardens here, and we didn't go this year.

Thank you to everyone for leaving such kind comments. If you are ever in the area this time of year it is worth a stop to see this in person. Believe me, my photos do not really give this display proper justice. I wish I knew a way to really show these displays how they really appear to the naked eye. It is so very difficult to take the really bright lights against the really black background and show that dynamic range the way our eyes see it. If you expose for the lights you lose the background as an inky nothingness. If you try to bring out some detail in the dark background then the lights become an overexposed mass. I have even tried HDR but this does not render the lights correctly and really does not stand a chance if the lights are blinking and changing color. Anyone have a method they have tried that seems to work? These displays are not the same as the Chinese lantern displays. Those displays give off plenty of light to photograph in.
