Hi Everyone: Just saw a Tony Northrup You Tube in which he says my Nikon kit lens, 18 X 55 can only resolve 9mp in my camera which is 24mp and that because of my cheap lens I am losing effectively 15mp. He says this comes from a DxO rating on the lens. Is this true?

I've said it before and I'll say it again if Tony Northrup told me what time of day it was, I'd pray I was wearing an accurate watch so I could check for myself.

After the lens comment MOST DEFINITELY!
(Anyone can be an authority if they write an article/make a video?)

Yeah, there was a lot of discussion and controversy about that video a while back. Just buy the camera you want and then buy the lenses you want.

You mean you can't estimate the time without a watch?

I used the comment as a figure of speech. Either way, I wouldn't rely on much of anything Tony N. espoused.

I mean the time he tells you would be way off that you don't need a watch to know if it's wrong.

I also have that "cheap, ordinary" kit lens. It is extremely sharp at all apertures and focal lengths. I recently compared several shots taken with it at 55mm and my "legendary" 55mm micro-Nikkor, both at f8; couldn't tell the difference! Don't pay any attention to the nay-sayers; the Nikon AF DX 18-55 is an awesome lens capable of the most professional shots the photographer is capable of taking!

Tony Northrup is good for only ONE think. And that is posting click-bait. He makes his living off of internet ads that pay him pennies everytime someone clicks on his pages. So the more outlandish his statements, the more clicks he produces, and the more money he makes. Look at his posts the same as any other joke, get a good laugh and move on!

That would explain it.
Doesn't mean that propagation of miss-information is right though.

TN is a popular internet photography personality but I don't watch him for a reason.

Have never, ever, heard anything good about this guy. Have heard disparaging comments for at least a year. It's sad the internet provides a way for folks to do half-baked work and publish the results as gospel.
