I've been playing with converting images to black and white. I used Photoscape and Topaz Studio. Here's a few results. If anyone has any tips and tricks, I'd love to hear them.
#1 has terrific tonal range, #4 great contrast. The subjects of both really pop. There seem to be infinite ways to manipulate photos for b&w conversion and you are well on your way. Enjoy your explorations, Cathryn!

Thank you so much, Linda, for the feedback! I really appreciate it!

I'll just give my ditto to Linda's comment, Cathy. I'm so glad you're working with black/white conversions. I'm very interested in the subject, so we'll learn together!

Very well done! Only tip I might have would be to experiment a bit with blending modes after you make your initial conversion. You can get some really interesting effects.
