First, a disclaimer........I am not a current or even past Nikon user !
I was in Barnes a Noble Sat. - one of the british photo mags had tested the Z7 with the new 24-70 and 35mm S lenses. The Imatest numbers were the highest I have seen ! - verifying that the new larger lens mount and shorter back focus has liberated Nikon lens designers - as I predicted it would - and resulting in full frame resolution performance for lenses 50mm and shorter that we have never seen before ! The down side to this is the vignetting will increase due to physics of the lens being closer to the sensor - but this is correctable in software.
I am sure a similar advantage - at least the shorter back focus part - will also benefit the new Canon mirrorless lenses. Canon had enlarged their DSLR lens mount long ago and their mirrorless mount is basicly the same size now ......and poor Sony missed the boat long ago with their small e-mount !

Hey, just because you don't use Nikon gear doesn't mean you can't shill for them.
Why no link to the Imatest results? Which tests did they run? Who perfomed the tests--Nikon?
"Highest you have seen" -- what does that mean?
"Liberated Nikon lens designers" sounds like marketing talk.
I get the message: BUY IT NOW! BUY IT NOW! BUY IT NOW! So how come you haven't bought it?
Wanna know another camera that had a short back focus distance? The Kodak Pocket Instamatic.

Sony was too busy selling the small and light but seemed to not pay attention to the large diameter EF mount from 1987. Nikon picked upon it with the Z mount and will have the same flexibility as Canon going forward. Interesting the Sony e mount is even smaller than the Canon little M series mount.

Leica doesn’t seem to have had such problems with their small L39 and M mounts.

With fast lenses they do when you get into longer focal lengths in particular.

How do you link to something you read in a magazine in a book store? Maybe you could Google it if you are actually interest in results. You seem to have no interest in buying anything or even educating yourself about what is available. You should just change your user name to "I'm Negative" and your tag line to "Everyone is out to get me". Then you'll have time to go out and take pictures with your Instamatic.

As I recall now, it was the latest issue of N - Photo magazine that had a quite extensive testing of the Z7 and lenses.
I am just trying to pass along info that I find significant going forward - especially as it might pertain to wide angle landscape shooters. I am sure you will gradually hear more about this as time goes on from internet sources.

Whoa there Bipod. Step away from the coffee pot. Take a breath, eat a piece of fruit.

I think Leica's design budgets ($$$$) may have mitigated their small mount handicap.....to some degree.

In the beginning, I think Sony designed the E-mount for APSc and used it on full frame as an after thought/convenience. In any case, they are now stuck with it !

I agree. Canon had the vision long ago and Nikon saw the brilliance of it with the mount change.
