I have a box of Zeiss Lens Cleaning Wipes which I occasionally use to clean my camera lenses. Could they be used on the camera sensor or would I be asking for trouble? I think it contains alcohol... hopefully close to 100% so it evaporates quickly.

No.

Do. Not. Use. Lens. Wipes.

There are a number of proper sensor cleaning systems, and once you've done some research and planning, each is effective. Or if you don't trust your own abilities, have your sensor cleaned by someone who knows what they're doing. Got a decent brick-n-mortar Camera Shop handy? If so, talk with them.

Sensors have a glass top layer so I suspect it would be fine. But Let’s wait to see if we get some first hand experience with using them. Good thought to check out!

I would use cleaners for their specified use... if lens wipes were good for camera sensors, they would be marketed for that purpose also.

To me, trying to save a few bucks and probably ruin one of the most expensive parts of your camera seems like not a good idea. Of course, you could try it and let us know definitively.

The Sensor Scope system by Delkin Devices works great. I was a little hesitant at first because I live in a dust bowl with 11 kids and 12 dogs.

In spite of all of the crapola that could have been in the air to re-infect the sensor, the goobers came off nicely and at $90.00 was slightly more than half of what Nikon wanted to clean it AND I don't have to send my camera out when it needs cleaning again. T'was a win-win on this end.

Something to consider.

I've got the Delkin cleaner scope system also, and used to do all my camera bodies as needed. I still use it, but with CPS, I also rotate my bodies and lenses for maintenance, adjusting and cleaning.

My advice is to use the appropriate tool for the appropriate job. Your sensor is not a lens. Your lens is not a sensor. Don't cross use the tools.

I tried the wet sensor cleaning system and ended up to be a disaster for me. Now I use the Gel Stick from Germany and have for when this item just came out. Keep it in a cool location, out of the sun and away from heaters. Most of the time I can blow dust particles off of the sensor, when not 'Gel Stick' time. Good luck and do whatever you feel safe doing.
