A salute to all my fellow veterans and especially those Naval Aviators with whom I've had the pleasure to serve with during the Vietnam war.

I’m a proud Veteran of the Viet Nam era but my tour was totally uneventful.
On this day my heart goes out to all Vetrans and their families who “survived” but whose lives were
forever altered, physically, emotionally, and psychologically.
I salute YOU and thank YOU for your service👍🙏👍🙏

Thank you to all who served and made it home and those who didnt.
Thank you also to the families that have lost a loved one or had to deal with the aftermath.

Thanks to all who stood up and were counted in every war.

My high school lost 160 alumni in WWII and another 25 in Vietnam--just a small percentage of those who went over.

While there, I had the honor of being an post-mortem inventory officer--packing the deceased's personal property for shipment home.

I’m sure many people are not aware that a service such as yours exists.
Thank you.

I was Tay Ninh Province Engineer Advisor.

Our Advisory Team's officers volunteered to take those inventories to honor fallen friends or colleagues, so it wasn't a service, per se.

One of the tasks was to examine correspondence and pictures in order to remove possibly embarrassing things (e.g., letters to a non-spousal girlfriend). And yes, we did find embarrassing things.

I’m sure you did!
And I’m sure their families appreciated your efforts.

In the Plaza outside 55 Water St in lower Manhattan, there’s a memorial comprised of actual letters, diary entries etc., etched in glass block walls, from people “in country” and their families. I wonder if any of what you returned found it’s way to these walls.

I was in the Army for five years between 1965 and 1970. I spent two tours in Vietnam in locations near the DMZ to the Mekong Delta. When people say "Thank you for your service" I thank them but am tempted to say "My service to my country occurred AFTER I was discharged from the Army and spoke out against the travesty that was Vietnam." Patriotism is not just being there, it is about dissent also.
