I'm on a RV forum and a few of the folks store their RV's in underground salt mines - dry and constant temp... The govt and colleges use them for document storage also - again - dry and constant temp... They've been around for years - why the big deal now all of a sudden - don't they have more important things to report on???

I wonder if any of this is true.

One famous secret based was at a golf course in VA, I believe. It was a huge, secure base intended to house government officials and politicians in time of nuclear attack. Unfortunately, a reporter got wind of it and wrote a story about it. Hundreds of millions of dollars were wasted, and the government had to look elsewhere. Sometimes, a little secrecy is a good thing. On the plus side, you can take a tour of this bunker.

Another good example involves Howard Hughes, the government, and a Soviet sub. We knew where a Soviet submarine sank, but the Soviets didn't. The gov't contacted Hughes. The result was a "research" ship, the Glomar Explorer. They were able to raise part of the sub, but a reporter learned about it, and public knowledge prevented them from going back the following year to get the rest of the sub. I don't see the sense in that. "The public has a right to know" is nonsense.

In the 50's and 60's we had the 'Cold War' with secret bunkers for military and governments. The problem they discovered was the logistics of feeding everyone and keeping them healthy. I think that was why we had the scare about the coming 'ice age'. An attempt to kickstart hydroponic advancement to allow these shelters to work. Then we have global warming to again kickstart ways that 'Government' and military can become self sufficient in adverse conditions. Maybe the old shelters will get new use. As for secrecy - Everything that governments do 'for themselves' is kept secret if they can.

The shelters build underground in gazillions of houses in the 50's and 60's that became playgrounds for the neighborhood kids have been long since forgotten and are secret once again. Same for hundreds of facilities built by the gubbiment on your tax dollars which escaped discovery and are now secret once again. You can just bet - THEY know where they are, and will use them to save their sorry a$$e$ when it hits the fan. And They WON'T invite US.

This is actually under the World Famous Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs,
West Virginia...….my Uncle helped install the Telephone System there....it is very near
my hometown of Ronceverte...they built a new wing on the hotel and the Bunker under
it at the same time.....and, most folks never knew it...
'til it was discovered by a reporter..and, for your further info., the Floods of 2016 almost destroyed one of the golf courses...
