Looking for some suggestions for instrumental or artists for sound tracks to put to landscape slide shows. What factors make for a good accompaniment?
My musical tastes are pretty well limited to Van Morrison and hits of the 60's and 70's. Looking for something a bit more contemporary but easy listening.
Mendelssohn, Claude Debussy, Ralph Williams, not contemporary but timeless.

What kind of landscapes? Gentle rolling hills and smooth waterfalls in spring and fall? Dramatic mountain peaks covered in snow and ice in winter? Parched deserts in the heat of summer? The music will be very content dependent.
OP here.
WOW - thanks for all of the great suggestions. I will work my way through them all. Great way to expand my musical horizons. I go to a lot of camera club presentations and photo meets and I am always impressed with the music tracks that go with the slide show. I doubt if any of my slide shows will ever make it past my livingroom TV, but the matter of copyright is well taken.
Thanks for all of your input.

One of my favorite tracks. I put it on every weekend as I am crossing the Sagamore Bridge onto Cape Cod to put me in the mood.
If you use copyrighted music without paying royalties or getting permission, you are violating the law. If you use your production to show to a few friends or relatives it is unlikely you be caught. However if your production gets on a commonly visited web site, such a You Tube, you are at risk.
Do not assume that because your production is not for commercial purposes or that your audience is limited you are safe. Copyright laws require that copyright owners must aggressively defend their copyrights or be at risk of losing them.
There are sources for royalty free music. In some cases the music is free. In other cases there is a one time fee. Some slide show development software comes with free music. I have purchased music from DAWN Music. There are many other sources. Most of this music is composed to fit into productions that have a theme or genre.
As a rule of thumb assume any music composed or recorded after 1920 is copyrighted. Keep in mind that unauthorized use of copyrighted material can come with heavy financial penalties.
Remember if you was to publicize the music with your works than it is copyright protected. But for your own projects there is no copyright protection.
I use meditation music on my videos editing is very pleasant and you tube has a good selection.

I second that! I’m going to go play it right now. 😸
Try Ennio Morricone. To get a taste, find Legend of 1900 and give a lesson. It is a tale were a baby was abandoned on a ship and subsequently raised by the crew. The baby grew to manhood on the ship and never left it. He became an accomplished pianist. The tale is a backward look at the baby's whole life when the ship was to be demolished after a lifetime on ocean waters. Ennio has made many soundtracks to classic movies and productions. He might be on Wikipedia, which is where I am heading after posting this. Good luck on your endeavor and do abide by copyright laws.
Wikipedia has a long article on Ennio Morricone. His musicical career started in 1940 at age 12. You Tube has many of his compositions from a wide ranging career.

Pachebel' s Canon in D major. Endless variations.
I have been listening to Ennio's works on YouTube and must say should you choose any of his pieces your pictures just absolutely must be superior in every way conceivable. Remember they will be accompanying superior music and must reflect its mood.
