I see many posts that mention cameras by manufacturer, i.e. Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji, plus a few others. I have yet to see any posts making any comment, positive or negative, about Pentax. As a Pentax user, I have found them to be very good cameras with excellent glass, and very easy to handle, control and operate. So, I'm wondering how others here feel or think of Pentax gear, positive or negative.

As a Canon shooter, I also shoot regularly with Pentax (film) and I can only second your opinion on Pentax cameras and lenses! There are a lot of folks here on the forum, that are Pentax shooters and there are many posts all the time about one or another aspects of shooting with Pentax cameras and/or lenses!

Pre AF Pentaxes are great. But I can't hardly like any of the Post AF Pentaxes.

Positive, positive, positive. They have been selling cameras that have been weatherproof a lot longer than most. And that is not the only good quality. They are less known because they haven't been selling Pentaxes as many or as long as the Canons and Nikons. But their product is good but not in the limelight like Canon and Nikon.

Interesting you th8ign they have not been around long. Take a read of the following:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentax

I saved my pennies and bought a Pentax Spotmatic, SLR, circa 1969, (memory fades a bit to the exact date). It was just before they changed from the screw mount to the bayonet mount. I took many pictures with it but ultimately I ended up with an orphaned product. Time passed there was school and kids an careers... life passed. Fast forward to today.. never far away, now I am strongly back into enjoying my passion for photography, look at my handle for a clue to what I am using now.

I have friends that shoot and love their Pentax cameras, new and vintage. I, wrongly, always thought they were soon to go out of business due to low market share, so I went with Minolta (which ultimately did go out of business) and switched to Nikon when I could afford good glass.

Pentax is one of the oldest camera companies in Japan, older than industry leader Canon. They manufacturer excellent quality products and are considered number 5 of the top 5 Japanese camera companies. Top 5 are, Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Pentax.

I am sorry. I failed to state that I was talking about the digital cameras. I think anyone who has been knowledgeable in photography has heard of and knows of the Pentax Spotmatic and the K1000. The Pentax national headquarters use to be out here in Colorado. I would run by it every day while running on my lunch hour when I was much younger. It was because of their being located here in the Denver area that I would suggest to people to consider Pentax. If anything went wrong with the camera, one could usually go there and they would actually repair one's camera while you waited. How is that for customer service.

My Super Takumar lenses ( screw mounting) are enjoying a new lease of life in the digital age, since I obtained an adapter to fit them on my Sony Digital camera. Still good quality glass.

Pentax was bought by another good camera company the Ricoh, and enjoys a new life.

My first SLR, in the 1960s, was a Pentax Spotmatic, an excellent camera for it's time. I currently shoot landscapes with a Pentax K-1 and doubt there is a better DSLR for that purpose.
