I forced myself to do this, with a 100-400L when I was after birds. I only do grasses etc with a macro lens.

Thanks, that less than 3' nearest focus allows a lot of closeups and fake macro. (that even holds with the 1.4x III which I wasn't using this time) The extreme IQ of the lens helps a lot.

Jerry, fantastic close up with excellent detail. I actually traded in all my macro lenses at this time since I hardly ever used them and used one of my close focusing zoom lens.

Very nice Jerry! I frequently use my 70-200 with a 1.4 for flowers, insects and other things small. Not having to get on the ground makes it a much more desirable method then shooting a macro lens. Not that macros don't have their place as well.
