I’ve been using Oly mft and Nikon crop and FF. Just picked up a Pentax K-S2, lovely piece of kit, I know nothing of their lenses, anybody here have an opinion?

If budget is a consideration, I would suggest looking into the Pentax DA 55-300mm F4.5-w.8ED lens to compliment an 18-55mm kit lens. Pentax and older Asahi lenses have always been noted for their fine optics.

Thank-you, anyone familiar with their wide angle lenses?

I don’t think they make the Takumar any more.

I have a Pentax K1 FF camera and because it has in body image stabilization, it works very well with older Pentax lenses which are plentiful and inexpensive on the used market. Pentax also has a range of modern DA lenses for the K-S2. I would rate the optical quality on par with the big boys. The Pentax forum: www.pentaxforums.com has a wealth of information on lenses, I highly recommend you take a look. I shoot both Nikon and Pentax and find them both to produce outstanding results!

i've been a Pentax guys since I started. It was the ergonomic design of the Super A back in the 1980s that caught my attention, and that ergonomic focus continues to the K5 that I have now. The Pentax branded lenses have always been first rate from wide to long telephoto.

I bought my wife a little used white S2 and she loves it. It fits her smaller hand perfectly and is light enough that she can carry it all day comfortably. It packs 20 megapixels and when used with DA lenses makes marvelous photos. It accepts any Pentax auto focus lens and has many features normally reserved to more expensive Pentax models.

If you have large hands, this would not be a good fit for you as it has no battery grip. It has only one SD slot. If you are interested in a ultra wide-angle lens consider either the DA 12-24 or the 14 mm. I highly recommend this little known camera.

I second the recommendation you go to pentaxforums.com. They have a large collection of both user reviews and staff lens tests you will find very helpful on lens decisions. They also have a very active "marketplace" where members can post equipment for sale.

Oly, Nikon and Pentax. I hope you will not get confused with three different systems.
Pentax lenses are of very good quality from what I know.

Pentax lenses are excellent performers and affordable. Amazon or eBay are good places to look. Sometimes, you can find good prices on Pentax Forums, wich also provides useful reviews. My favorites are the 18-135mm, 50mm 1.4, 16-45mm, and 55-300mm. Many of my photos have been accepted for public photo exhibits. I also suggest using polarizer filters regardless of whatever brand you get.

In 1968, while in Vietnam, I got/bought a pentax Spotmatic. I used a pentax 50mm F 1.4 & a pentax 200mm prime. I absolutely loved that SET-UP, and used it all, right up till 2000. I gave it to a sailing pal o mine and bought a canon eos 30-d. After acquiring a few lenses for the canon I came to the conclusion that to do anywhere near as well as I had come to expect with Pentax, I would have to get ridiculously expensive canon "L"series lenses that would limit my chances of affording great glass. I then gave all my canon gear to my son, and bought a PENTAX mirror-less camera, with a couple of lenses for that. I'm not missing a thing with pentax glass. Since 2009 I have purchased a K-5, A K-S2, and a K-1 (FF), not to mention, a number of terrific PENTAX lenses. My camera club pals mostly own nikon and canon stuff, They have my sympathy lol.!!! Some of the best lenses:::77mm prime 50mm F 1.4 prime 35mm Macro prime, 100mm Macro prime. I do also have a 12-24mm lens by PENTAX, that is very nice. One thing I've always admired and appreciated about the pentax philosophy..... I can use every lens they've ever made, on all of my pentax cameras, they never planned obsolescence , they have not outmoded my lens, by changing the MOUNT.. Pentax even designed their FF (the K-1) to easily accommodate all those lenses from way back. BUT!!! consider your own personality type, go along with the crowd, If you must, & let's face it , there really isn't a ONE-WAY, so many great cameras and lenses out there. I recently bought a Fuji mirrorless and three lenses, very fine stuff!! I think that Fuji & pentax are at least as good as the OTHERS. P.m. me If you have specific questions about pentax, if you could stand any more of "My Take" on the gear. RJM

Plenty of used lenses on ebay. I shoot with both Fuji and Pentax and think Pentax offers the best value for your money

You can't go wrong with Pentax lenses, so nothing to worry there. I'll add myself to the chorus: check pentaxforums.com.
I'm a Pentax/Nikon guy, I've been with Pentax since the 80's and now with Nikon digital. You have a plethora of new/used Pentax lenses to chose from, Pentax is top when it comes to lenses.
