Being a grass is always greener kind of guy, I just purchased said lens to replace my Sigma 150x600MM Contemporary lens which I've had for over two years. While I had reasonably good luck with the Sigma, I felt it was often slow to acquire focus. I bought the Tamron after reading many reviews as well as comments on this web site. These shots were all taken in the afternoon on two separate sunny October days in Seattle. They were taken at the Union Bay Natural area which borders Lake Washington to the east and the University of Washington campus to the west. I had good luck finding birds. The Green Heron is the first I have seen anywhere in three years. I coupled the Tamron with a Nikon D500. Regarding the lens, my first impression is pretty positive. My center focus point was not even close to being on the flying Green Heron (the heron was in the upper left corner of the frame) but I still got a reasonably good shot of a bird that was moving really fast. Let me know what you think and, if you already own this lens, what your experience with it has been.

Great shots! I have the 150-600 G2 also but use it on the D7200 - I think I will have to upgrade to the D500 to increase hit rate for the BIF shots. Did you use the first or second (panning) VC mode for the BIF shots?
Handheld or tripod? Shutter speed? (sorry did not get chance to look at EXIF data).

Thanks very much Chris. All shots are handheld, VC mode 2. Shutter speed 1/2000 for the green heron and 1/1250 for the Great Blue (a slow flying bird).

Great detail. I have this lens on a D750 and have no complaints except the weight. I don't do BIF but chase elk, deer, fox, coyote, and other wildlife. I love the fast focus and I use BBF exclusively with this lens either on a mono or tripod.

Very nice. I have a lot of Green Heron shots but have never seen one flying.

Looks like a great lens. Too bad Nikon and cannon can’t make a lens this good.

Nikon's 200-500 is close optically (IQ) to the Tammy 150-600 G2, but doesn't have the weather sealing and fluorine coatings, plus the added range, which tilted me in favor of the Tammy. Plus the Nikon is a bit heavier and bulkier, although it has a constant 5.6 max aperture. Pros and cons but the Tammy was mostly pros for me for the price range. If Nikon made a "gold ring" version of the 200-500 with fluorine and "N" coatings (analogous to Tammys BBAR coats) plus weather sealing it would probably run over $2k, but certainly an HQ lens. This lens is often compared with the Sigmas of the same range (Sports and Contemporary), Nikon 200-500 and I think the Canon 100-400 (?). The Tammy has HQ construction but one criticism is the mode switches should be recessed to prevent accidental changes - I have not had this problem though with this lens.

V good pictures. I am using this lens (sometimes with a 1.4 extender) and it is excellent.
