I recently purchased this flash unit NikonSB-R200 flash for macro from a couple in ID. Unfortunately the Nikon SU-800 Wireless command unit was not in the case, my bad for not knowing the product. Anyway, is it possible to use my Goddox Pro N to fire the units? Anyone had any experience with Goddox firing Nikon flashes?? Or will the Goddox flash itself fire the Nikon units?? Thanks for your help in advance. Mike

Have you tried. I was looking into Goddox products & know they work with some Nikon products. But I suspect you might need to purchase the Goddox transceiver that matches the pro n.

Good luck.

The SU- 800 uses infrared to control the Nikon flashes.
The Godox uses radio to communicate.
The Nikon flash heads do not work on radio signals.

Right! I forgot some Godox speedlights have an optical master mode. Great system!

They will trigger from the pop up flash on a lot of Nikons.

Yes, anything in the D7xxx or better models can control them, but I believe the OP has a D850. No pop-up flash.

I must admit that, even though the D810 can trigger the SB200s, I would not give up the SU-800.
They can be triggered by any of the speedlights that are in the CL group but the extra flash can make life difficult. There is a third party copy of the SU-800 but I don't know if it is any good.

and it is possible to find the SU-800 for less than £200 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nikon-SU-800-Wireless-Speedlight-Commander-Funkadapter-Blitzgerat-Fernsteuerung/132817837100?epid=1104653523&hash=item1eec8f5c2c:g:ZPAAAOSwcWJbwP1v

I think -- not certain -- that this unit can function as an optical slave, at least via IR signal. See Nikon's discussion:

Good luck!

Check your local camera store, especially if they have an in-house repair department. They might have just what you need at a reasonable price. A couple of years ago, I got a nice Nikon D300 which had a broken aperture interface ring, meaning I couldn't use my D lenses. I was able to find an entire scrap body (with an AI ring in perfect condition) for only $50 at my local store.

By the way, they actually make 2 setups, R1 which has no SU-800 and R1C1 which does. Sounds like you got an R1 so if it was advertised as an R1C1 you should complain.

I've only used the $250 Nikon SU-800 for infrared control but there is a knockoff available for a fraction of that price.
The Debau SU800 is reviewed HERE.
Has several advantages besides price.
The biggest is that it uses AA batteries vs the CR123A.
I think this Vello branded unit from B&H is the same as the Debao https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1110943-REG/vello_fwirc_n_freewave_ir_ttl.html

I have fired them from an on camera flash with no problem, either using my SB 800 on the flash on the camera.
