I have searched old posts and have not found anything recent. I have approx 1,000 Kodachrome and Ektachrome slides that I would like to scan or have scanned. I would like to find an automated system that I can load bulk stacks of slides and let the scanner do the initial work.

I do have an old Nikon Coolscan 4000 ED but do not have the slide attachment. I would also have to get a FireWire card to add to my Win10 computer to be able to connect it.

I am also not opposed to renting equipment, using a scanning service, but when it approaches .50 to $1 per slide, make more sense to buy or rent the gear and do it myself, provided that I can do bulk batching.

Any experienced advice is greatly appreciated.

Epsom v600 seems well recommended on this site. Just purchased one and have been using it on prints with great success. It has some amazing software restoration features "Digital ICE". Will try slides soon. Best of luck!

Thank you. Does it have bulk load capabilities?

It is manual and has a plastic holder to scan 5 slides at once. It is a bed scanner that will do 10"x 16" prints or so. Will also convert negatives and restore color.

High quality, bulk loading, slides only.......

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1361847-REG/pacific_image_ps_x_powerslide_x_automatic_slide_scanner.html

Buy it, use it and sell it back to B&H or on eBay if the price is too high.

Or you could buy one of the Nikon slide attachments offered on eBay.

Does that do "batch" like the OP asked for?

I know of scanner that can automatically scan a 36 exp uncut roll but don't know of any that can bulk scan mounted slides. Someone modified a carousel slide projector for this purpose. Maximum of 140 slides but 80 slides is more reliable.

"....don't know of any that can bulk scan mounted slides."

I posted a link above to this one: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1361847-REG/pacific_image_ps_x_powerslide_x_automatic_slide_scanner.html

It was discussed on this forum a week or so ago. The bad part about it is that it will ONLY do mounted slides.

Thanks! The OP can use one of those as he has only 35mm mounted slides I believe. It's OK for slides though as for negatives I need to make adjustments with each negative and I don't want batch scan.

The OP wrote that he is only interested in mounted slides.

I have the Epson V600 and really like it...i have done photos, slides, negatives, documents with great success...I scanned several thousand slides over a 6 month period with great results. Unless you are in a hurry this is an easy way to scan your own slides and prints..

Be sure to back up to another place as you go..I lost a bunch of my negatives because i did not follow this simple rule...

"I have the Epson V600 and really like it..."

Didn't the OP specifically state he started this topic to find a scanner that will bulk load mounted 35mm slides?

"Bulk loading", sorry I had to laugh. Wow, I looked up that model. It is a bit of a fossil, Widows 2000 days! Firewire on a PC, I've never seen anyone use Firewire even if the PC (one of the Laptops I had years ago had it), had it. On a Mac occasionally. For some reason most PC hardware never used it. Perhaps this scanner did (back in the USB 1 & 2 days). Will Windows 10 even recognize a Firewire port? (any more than it might a run with a Pentium 4 CPU). I actually understand your situation.

I'm sure I have a lot more than a thousand slides. But I'd only consider copying (scanning) the very best ones. Same with my many thousands of negatives (35mm to 8x10")! I can also digitize my slides by copying them with a bellows and slide copy attachment (to either more film or to digital) on a camera. Not sure what to do about your bulk loading requirement. But any Epson Scanner from the V500 thru V800 series ones would work fine for standard mounted or unmounted slides, to say nothing of the more pricey Professional Epson flat bed scanners. For me that main difference in models is being able to or not, to scan larger than 6x7cm film. My Epson Perfection V500 Photo scanner can not do 4x5" negatives, only up to about 7cm wide films (strips). I really should have gotten and need a higher model, say 700 or 800 something. But only 5 or 10 or 15 slides at a time (?).

Thank you. I don’t think a flatbed scanner is the right device for slides. Pricing it out at Costco, it works out to be around $300 to have them do the work for me. Providing that the resolution is high enough, it’s probably a no brainer from headache, hassle and time use standpoints. If not, I will have to figure something else out. I have requested an answer to that question and am awaiting the info.
