I got a quote from B&H for my stuff and it seemed awfully low. Any suggestions for another site. Ebay already has a million D 750's on their page at around $1200. I want to upgrade to either the Nikon Z7 or Sony mirrorless A9 R3.

I had the same experience with Adorama with a Canon 5D Mk II. I packed it all up, sent it to them and their online quote which was quite low IMO, so I told them to send it back. Contacted mpb and their quote was substantially more then Adorama's so printed out the FedEx label and when my camera got back from Adorama, slapped the mpb label on it and realized $160 more from mpb than what Adorama was offering.

A9 is a beast. Why even consider the Z7?

Because the UHH crowd is ... how shall we say... “Thrifty” (I resemble that remark too).

Thanks for that tip! I just requested a quote from them for my DX kit.

I want to generate $ to buy a Z6 body and FTZ adaptor. I am abaonding the DX format. That makes the most sense for me. My digital kits will be FF and M43 only going forward. I need to consider selling my FF D-SLR as well before it’s value tanks completely.

In Adorama's defense, they're a business, with lots of overhead, and need to make money off of their time and liability on the equipment.

Are those D750s you mention on ebay "selling" or "listing" for $1200?
And remember you'll pay ebay 10% and paypal 4% of the sales price, and the shipping costs!
So if you "sell" there for $1200, you're only going to see about $1,035.

Follow the "for sale" page over on Fred Miranda, they will keep up the items sold for some time so you can see what things are really selling for (prices go away after about a week though). If your equipment is in well cared for condition, US models, you'll get some good return there. Big swing in prices based on those details as well as number of actuations on a camera body.

BTW- I've been looking for a full frame Nikon, trying to decide between the 750, 810 or new 850. From what I see decent D750s are going for around $1000 on both Miranda and ebay, unless they are "like New" and only have a couple thousand clicks.

Wish I could make you an offer, but I need to wait until late November for some business/inc reasons. Good luck.

They have to make money when they sell it, so of coarse they won't offer you top dollar. Probably 20% less than it's worth. Trading/selling to camera stores will always be low. See what they are selling it for and go slightly under that, providing the shutter count and conditions are similar.

I had then (Adorama) do a quote on about 10 grand worth of film stuff, a few Nikon F2A's lenses... $700 was top offer. I kept it, but have since sold some things privately and did okay.

Adorama is a business with a store, employees and overheads. They take your used gear, evaluate it, repair if necessary, clean up and post it for sale with a warranty and return policy. They have to buy at a.”wholesale”price because they sell retail and have to cover all of their costs and realize a profit as well. Simple economics.

My best experience with trades has been to Cameta Camera. They always seem to offer a stronger value, especially if you are trading up. Quick turnaround and excellent customer service.

You have had a plethora of suggestions, however one that has been overlooked is Craig's List. I have bought and sold on that forum 'with some precautions' and done very well. The system I use is;

1. Always talk to the prospective buyer/seller on the phone to qualify them as being serious. Forget emails and texting. When I buy or sell I email them my phone #, and if/when they call they are most often interested and a serious prospect.

2. I always meet in the lobby of my bank, (mine has branches all over the state) for security and if I decide to purchase I withdraw the funds, or selling I deposit the money immediately and am not walking around with a pocket full of cash.

3. If they don't agree to my terms of purchase/sale I say bye bye!

I have made some excellent purchases and sales on CL and the beauty of it is you meet in a safe place with security and the prospective buyer/seller can hands on evaluate the item. It is a cash only deal eliminating shipping and tax issues.

Just my opinion and experience and best of luck in your endeavor.
Michael

Try it here! You may get better price or you may not. It cost money to switch.

Are you sure going from a D750 to a mirrorless camera you are upgrading? You could be lightening the load but not necessarily upgrading.
