One speedlight - pitch dark.
Had 15min with the B&G between speeches...ran out and got this one before it started raining. Some of my favs have been while in a rush and not a lot of equipment. (My 2nd shooter shined his cell phone torch on them so my camera would focus and then I fired. )
I had 5 speedlight in the reception area at various angles but had no time to dismantle to the soft box etc ect ....just grabbed an extra out of the bag and dropped it behind the B&G...and voila !
NICE image!
True enough- some of the best shots are simply produced and under limited time circumstances.
Many years ago most wedding shooters used one camera, a single fixed lens and one strobe- I use two and was considered "crazy" by many of my colleagues and cohorts. Nonetheless, with one light on an extension cord- no radios or fachy gear- we produced some killer shots. In many cases their was little time for formal shots, so we needed to work quickly and efficiently.
Surprising what can be done with a candle or some soft ligh form a north lighted window. Sometimes- the less gear the better. Too much stuff can bog you down and stunt your creativity.
Oh Canada!

Voila! There is a lot to like from that image. Nice job in a crunch and nice job arranging and composing that image

Always nice to pull off a decent 'special' shot when things are jamming.
Question ... the speed light looks like it was bounced off the wall, would that be correct?

flawless rim lighting. Absolutely a winner of a photo, that needs to be on your website.

1 speedlight on the floor pointing straight up with card pulled out to reduce bounce directly off the back wall (still there and I reduced a little in post but did not remove entirely.
Honstly, didnt really know what I would get.
My original shot intention was RIM light but had the couple standing in the wedding hut and got the photo attached. Light ounced down from the ceiling and covered them in the front !!
1 speedlight ! (largely unedited photo attached... need to remove the debris off the back wall, detune the light splash a little and detune the tree showing up in the background but you get the idea)
MOved the couple outside the Wedding hut to get the RIM shot.
Both are useable but I look the silhoutted one better....

1 speedlight on the floor pointing straight up wit... (

...also didnt have the peaks lined up. I was laying on the ground and pre-focussing using my 2nd's cellphone light...probably took 10 shots to get the one I wanted.
The B&G were awesome.... and once I showed them the first shot, they were happy to stay there all night to get it right :-)
