Deciding on a new Canon

I currently have 1500 dollars to spend on a new camera and am currently shooting with a Canon T3 and various full frame lenses mostly. I tend to shoot mostly landscape and wildlife with the occasional portrait. I also tend to blow my photos that I like up to a 24x36 is most common. I am currently looking at a Canon 7D mark ii or possibly a Canon 6Dmark ii. I have watched hundreds of videos and they all seem to say the same thing, 6D is a beginner full frame with terrible focus system and the image quality is about equal between the two. The 7D is crop sensor with faster shutter, better weather sealing which is important here in the pacific northwest and the extreme environment im know to be in. I don't have the budget to jump to a 5D mark iv like I want at the moment. The 6D mark ii has a higher pixel rating of 26 compared to 20 that the 7D has but im not sure if that will be a difference when blowing the photos up to the sizes I need at times. Can anyone make a suggestion on what to possibly purchase in a Canon brand? Here is an example of some of my landscape that I did blow up to a 24x36 for the Living room.

The 6d will be better for you than the 7D ! ( for what you want) - You could also think about a used 5D III.

Gorgeous landscape BTW !

The 80D is a better value if you stay with a cropped sensor. The 7DII is big, heavy, and you're paying a high frames-per-second capability in price more than anything. The 80D may not have 10 fps and the heavy-duty build, but it is plenty capable. When considering a full-frame model, how many EF lenses do you have now and which? Spending all your money on a full frame body without investing in the equally expensive lenses will leave you wishing you had made other choices.

Should you maybe consider lenses rather than a body? How is your T3 lacking / holding you back today? What lens(es) are you using today? How / in what ways are they holding you back today for "mostly landscape and wildlife with the occasional portrait"? How will changing a body impact how these lenses perform?

I completely agree with imagemeister. With your budget I would go for the most bang for my buck and the 5D Mk III would be the one!

I'm a big fan of the 5D2 & would sell you mine for less than 1500 -- That is "if" I still had it -- Also please check-out the 5D3 which comes with all the goodies the the 5D2 should of had in the 1st place

You do not mention why you want a different camera body, other than maybe a GAS attack, which we all understand. But, if the photo you included is representative of your work with the T3, I would tend to parrot CHG_CANON in what is your current camera/lens lacking? Maybe spend the money on more trips to exotic landscape and wildlife sites?

Your lens arsenal would be more of a deciding factor as to a crop or full frame body. What do you own?

Life, welcome to the Hog!
Yes it IS pretty wet in your area. Your main decisions should be just HOW MUCH will you be getting wet. Do you hold back now because of weather?
The pic you showed is on a bright blue sky day?!
The ONLY reason to get the 7ll is the SEALING and the FAST frame rate.
You do mention wildlife at which the 7ll could excel at also if you start to shoot BIF, jumping fish or moving animals, especially with fast glass and shallow DoF. The better focus is critical at shallow DoF.
The 5lll is a very good all-around camera but not as good as the 7ll for quick action!
The 7ll has the extra dedicated processor for focus too.
The 6 series is poorly sealed if you ARE gonna get it wet and is entry level FF.
Also as good as the 5lll is it gains very little in mp. The 7 adds reach that the 5 can’t overcome with its low mp. Good luck

I've been shooting with the 6D Mark I for a few years and love it. I have not shot with the 7D or other models to compare. Most of the time I don't have focus problems but on occasion I do. BTW, your landscape is beautiful.

Whichever way you go wait until around Black Friday before you pull the trigger. Use this time now to do research. One more point, make sure you check-out Canon Refurbished site for deals.

Why not get a 5 D Mk 2 , that will do everything you want, and more; 21mp, it will cover your needs in enlargement.

Go with a full frame. Either a used 5d iii or a new 6D ii
