Hi Everyone! Starting to get into photography after failing to follow through on what was a budding passion in High School (nearly 18 years ago...GASP).
My current main interest is in astro/milky way, street, sports, pets and family. I know, I'm a bit all over the place. I'm currently in the market for a new camera and leaning toward the Nikon D7500 w/the 16-80 lens. Interested to learn from everyone here!
Welcome to the forum. I am sure the D7500 and lens would be a very nice combo, but if you are new to the game and unhampered by a bag full of lenses and a lifetime of habits, you should consider going Mirrorless. It is the future except for those who are heavily invested in their DSLR gear.
Thought about it, but from what I can afford right now, a comparable mirror-less and lens would be too expensive, at least I think it would. Maybe I'm not looking at the right stuff though. I currently have an old Nikon D3300 and the 2 kit lenses along with the 35mm 1.8, so I'm not super invested in the Nikon system, but have also spent time shooting with my Mom's D7200 so I am fairly comfortable with Nikon. I'm taking some local workshops and hope to go on some photo walks to help improve my skills, but at the same time would like to get into something a little nicer/faster than the D3300 and also nicer glass at the same time. Thought the D7500 kit made good sense.

Welcome
Most of us are "all over the place" with our photography.
To me, what I shoot is not as important as How I shoot.

Welcome to UHH. If you are familiar and comfortable using the Nikon cameras you and your mom own right now, go for the D7500 and hone your skills. Practice and more practice, then, at a point down the road, you can decide to go mirrorless if you want.
