I tip my hat to you. No garish colors, no wildy outlandish effects just a clean representation. Take note boys and girls, this is how to do HDR!
My only complaint is the title. It's Light
Ening Up unless you have a lightning storm in the cathedral.

I sorry for my wild spelling.

Was there a storm? Great lighting and color...
Beautiful. I am from New Orleans and have been in the Cathedral many times. It requires a huge effort to maintain because of its age. Also, great exterior shots from Jackson Square.
This is how HDR should look. It looks natural, as your eye would interpret it if you were there. I'd do some transformation to straighten the lines. The lines are all leaning inward and would be pretty easy to straighten in Lightroom. You would lose parts of the image but it would be easier on the eye. I like it as is but it would be interesting to experiment with transformation.
-edit: actually I tried to transform it and you lose about half the image in the process. Good idea but it won't work in this instance.
Lovely color harmonies latent within... Very nicely done Rudi... totally agree that Photomatix in synergy with Adobe PhotoShop is a wonderful adjunct for this scenario...
My only suggestion would be to consider a tilt-shift optic moving forward... They are indeed available in most all popular mounts and would have handled the annoying keystone distortion rather easily...
Although the aforementioned correction can be achieved in post the loss of acuity via this methodology is significant (sadly)
Conventional wisdom is to always handle optical distortion in camera... experience is a brutal teacher...
Thank you for sharing Rudi...
I wish you well on your journey...
