For those familiar with Newfoundland and iceburg alley

From mid to late June we are planning a trip to see the icebergs and whales in Newfoundland. We plan on arriving in Gander and to follow the optimal timing for bergs we are thinking of immediately heading to St. Anthony. Of course this means 4 days of travel, there and back and no where near the east coast. We would probably spend a day in Gros Morne as well as we're there already. Then spending the remaining time from Twillingate to Bonavista to St. Johns toward the end of June when whales and birds are starting the season. My question, took a while to get there, is heading to St. Anthony worth the 4-5 travel days to see the bergs en mass or would we be just as fortunate spending the 2 weeks meandering from Twillingate to St. Johns?

We are aware that boat excursions are the best way to see things but lounging on the cliffs with a 600mm can get us some good shots too.

Many thanks in advance.

You can see all the icebergs you want from Twillingate, if you are lucky enough to be there at the right time. It varies year to year. Whales are easily spotted from the cliffs near St John. Gros Morne should be on the to do list. Absolutely one of the most lovely spots on the planet.

Boat tour of Gros Morne is a winner. Back roads anywhere good. We took a whale boat tour and saw almost nothing.
