Actually it came out immediately as RAW. It did not evolve unless people are now not capitalizing it.

The word "raw" predates its use as a term of art in photography. I was thinking of its use here, with no change in meaning, as part of that evolution which includes its use relative to computer files uncapitalized as in "raw data". But I understand your comment relative to not evolving within the photographic lexicon.

Raw is raw. Uncooked meat ... uncooked image file. Read in context it shouldn't confuse anyone whether or not it is capitalized. If my raw files are on an sd card I'm not going to toss it on the barbeque. If my steak is RAW I won't use PhotoShop or ACR to make it palatable.

We should be discussing important things like what lens to buy for a trip to the moon!

"Raw" is not an acronym, and it's not a backronym, so there's no reason to capitalize every letter. Would you ask someone if he wants his carrots cooked or RAW?

From Word-A-Day -
In a backronym, an expansion is invented to treat an existing word as an acronym. For example, some believe that the word NEWS is an acronym for North, East, West, and South. In reality, the word is coined from “new” as in: What’s new?
When naming something, sometimes a suitable name is chosen and then an acronym is retrofitted on top of it: USA PATRIOT Act (Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism). The clunkiness of the expansion is a quick giveaway. How about forming a backronym for ACRONYM itself: A Contrived Result Of Nomenclature Yielding Mechanism?
Often, backronyms serve a useful purpose as mnemonics.

Yes, this rain is ridiculous. My pile of firewood has been wet since July. If I cover it, I'll just be keeping the moisture in. If we don't get some dry weather, the leaf season will be pretty drab.

I was thinking about getting a T-shirt that says "Real Men Shoot RAW" but I wonder how many people on the street will know what it means?

I rarely bother capitalizing “raw.” I’m a rebel or perhaps I rebel or more likely, I’m just lazy. Or, is it simply that the spellchecker isn’t paying attention? I think I’ll move on to the next posting. Thanks, Jerry.

I agree. It is what it is. I've always seen it in caps so I type it in caps.

I question whether among & between are truly synonyms. Between refers to making a choice from two people or objects whereas among refers to making a choice from three or more people or objects.
