The fuel door is usually on the opposite side of the muffler.

The triangle points to the side of the car with the filler tube 😏

I've never noticed the triangle on the fuel gauge. I have always used rule of thumb that the side of the dashboard the fuel gauge was on, the tank filler tube was on the same side.

They can come in handy in a loaner or if you just bought another car. There's nothing more aggravating than pulling in a crowded gas station to find out your on the wrong side of the pump.

I'm picky, I guess. I won't buy a vehicle with the fuel door on the right.

They could have put mine in the trunk...not a consideration for me. Yes, I have messed up a few times!

I don't own a car, so I occasionally rent them, and I discovered that triangle early on and always look for it when I'm pulling into a gas station.

I did have a Chevy once that had the gas pipe behind the license plate. I didn't really like that, either. Had to put the nozzle in sideways and hold the plate open.

I remember those and also the GM's where there was a latch to open the top half of the driver's tail light. My Vettes had it on the deck above the trunk so you couldn't go wrong.

I worked at a full service gas station in the early seventies and a lot of Vette owners wouldn’t let me put the handle in the car. They insisted on doing it themselves, same for a lot of bikers.
